Sow Crazy: New Wildflower Seed Brand Launched to Support UK Pollinators and Urban Gardeners

A new independent brand, Sow Crazy, has officially launched with a mission to help more people create wildlife-friendly gardens across the UK.

Sow Crazy specialises in curated wildflower seed mixes designed to encourage biodiversity in gardens, allotments, and community spaces. With urban green spaces under pressure, and widespread concern over declining bee and butterfly populations, the launch comes at a timely moment for gardeners seeking practical ways to support local ecosystems.

Pollinator populations in the UK, including species of bumblebees, solitary bees, and butterflies such as the Small Tortoiseshell and Meadow Brown, continue to face challenges from habitat loss, pesticide use, and climate change. Wildflower meadows, once a common feature of the British landscape, have diminished by over 97% since the 1930s. Sow Crazy aims to make it easier for individuals to play a part in restoring some of this lost habitat.

The company’s first 100% wildflower seed mixes feature native and naturalised species recommended by conservation groups, including Oxeye Daisy (Leucanthemum vulgare), Cornflower (Centaurea cyanus), Red Campion (Silene dioica), and Yellow Rattle (Rhinanthus minor). These plants are known to provide vital nectar and pollen sources for pollinators throughout the growing season.

Rachel and Adam Kirk, the founders of Sow Crazy, developed the brand out of a shared interest in ecology and sustainable gardening. “Our hope is that by offering accessible, UK-appropriate wildflower mixes, we can inspire more people to create small pockets of biodiversity in their own gardens,” says Adam.

The launch aligns with growing interest in rewilding and pollinator-friendly planting, highlighted by initiatives such as the UK Pollinator Monitoring Scheme (PoMS) and campaigns by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) and Buglife.
