With more than 35 years of experience in her field, Ms. Burris embraces a unique creative approach at FOLK Studio 451. In her "golden years," she is exploring history, celebrating culture and connecting people through innovative, intergenerational storytelling.

A Journey in Advertising and Entrepreneurship

Before building a career in media and entertainment, Ms. Burris pursued an education. In 1988, she completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts in advertising design, with a minor in business marketing at Texas Woman's University. Following this, she began her career in printing, publishing and corporate media, all to gather the experience she would need to launch her first business as owner of Bluebird Multimedia in 1994. Though the business lasted only four years, she learned what it took to enter the industry.

By 1999, Ms. Burris became an independent developer in her field. In this role, she found opportunities to work with notable clients, including Mary Kay, JCPenney and Dr. Pepper. In 2008, she leveraged her knowledge of advertising design and interactive development to join Broadway Bank as webmaster and worked her way to vice president of customer insights. She served in this position until 2022, when she helped to launch FOLK Studio 451.

Building FOLK Studio 451

Together with her partner, Jon West, Ms. Burris established FOLK Studio 451 as a means of expressing their creativity and strengthening multicultural bonds. Their shared mission to bring people together through storytelling, culture and innovation remains at the forefront of FOLK Studio 451's accomplishments. Ultimately, she envisions the project as a part of something bigger than herself.

Through FOLK Studio 451, Ms. Burris creates opportunities to collaborate with other creatives in San Antonio and beyond.

Civic Involvement and Awards

Outside of her professional career, Ms. Burris is actively involved in several civic and membership organizations. She is an active supporter of cultural arts organizations, including the McNay Art Museum, the Onöhsagwë:de' Cultural Center and The Tobin Center for the Performing Arts. Additionally, she is a member of Alamo City Studios, the Professional Photographers Association and the Texas Film Commission.

For her achievements in and outside of the artistic community, Ms. Burris has received several awards and accolades. She received the Chairman's Award for Excellence from Broadway Bank in 2013, and a Bronze Medal in 2025 from the prestigious Independent Publisher Awards for Best Regional E-book "Pioneer Handbook: Mastering Frontier Life in Orleans County, New York".

Today, Ms. Burris attributes much of her success to her family's foundation in creativity. With their support, she found the confidence, curiosity and lifelong love of learning necessary to excel in her field. Her penchant for storytelling is more than just a profession; it is a way of life because of the example her family set.

Plans for the Future

Moving forward, Ms. Burris intends to continue developing high-quality creative content for local and global communities. She is currently expanding her film production efforts, with the goal of creating multicultural works celebrating creativity through art, dance, food, storytelling and more. Additionally, she is writing a children's book series focused on global culture and inspiring creativity.
