What Happened?

On February 26, 2025, Encore Capital released its fourth quarter 2024 financial results, reporting a net loss of $139 million, due in part to a “$101 million goodwill charge in Q4” as part of “certain restructuring actions” including “adjustments to Cabot’s estimated remaining collections (ERC).”

On this news, Encore Capital’s stock price fell $10.19, or 21.9%, to close at $38.95 per share on February 27, 2025, thereby injuring investors.
