DuPage Senior Citizens Council (DSCC) Receives Platinum Certification From SAGEUSA

SAGEUSA is a national advocacy and services organization that has been looking out for LGBT elders since 1978. They build welcoming communities and keep the issues in the national conversation to ensure a fulfilling future for all LGBT people.

Lombard, IL – July 15, 2021 – DuPage Senior Citizens Council earns SAGECare credential helping improve the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) older adults. SAGECare is a division of SAGE the country’s oldest and largest non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of LGBT older adults. SAGECare provides LGBT competency training and consulting on LGBT aging issues to service providers.

“Like the rest of the population, seniors who are gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender face unique challenges that need to be fully understood”, said Marylin Krolak, Executive Director of DuPage Senior Citizens Council. “It is important that our staff truly understands their needs and can better acknowledge and celebrate them”. Taking this extra effort to become certified to fully support LGBT seniors is important to us”.

DSCC staff completed the Platinum Certification. The training provided staff the resources and education needed to immediately improve the quality of support and services they provide. Krolak added, “We have LGBT seniors who struggle with acceptance. The SAGE training and certification allows DSCC to continue learning and applying ways to welcome and serve LGBT older adults and provide the care they need.”

DSCC will recertify each year, reaffirming their ongoing commitment to serving seniors in the best ways possible. “We always look to deepen our relationships with all those we serve. The SAGE certification helps us live out our commitment”, Krolak adds.
