China Center for International Communication Development (CCCID) issued a press release here on Wednesday to promote a "Sister Garden" agreement signed between Lion Grove Garden of Chinese eastern city of Suzhou and Butchart Gardens in Canadian tourist city Victoria.

The agreement was inked during the opening ceremony of the "Suzhou Week" event, celebrating the 45th anniversary of the sister-city relationship between Suzhou and Victoria, which was held at Butchart Gardens.

According to the press release, the agreement outlined four key areas of collaboration: sharing practical experiences on issues such as climate change and exploring ecological conservation methods; exchanging ideas on garden preservation and promoting the inheritance of traditional gardening techniques; expanding mutual visits and tourism cooperation to enhance the appeal of gardens; and designating dedicated personnel for regular communication to facilitate joint projects like flower exhibitions and horticultural technology sharing.

Qian Yucheng, Deputy Director of the Suzhou Municipal Bureau of Landscape and Forestry, said at the event that the partnership was not only an alliance between two gardens but also a profound dialogue between Eastern and Western garden aesthetics and cultures, carrying the emotional resonance of the peoples of China and Canada.

Organized by the Suzhou Municipal Foreign Affairs Office and the Suzhou Municipal Bureau of Landscape and Forestry, and co-hosted by the Lion Grove Garden Administration, Butchart Gardens, and the Jiangsu Fellow Association, the "Suzhou Week" event was held with the support of the Chinese Consulate General in Vancouver. The event aims to use gardens as a medium and culture as a bridge to deepen mutual understanding and friendship.

The event featured the launch of a Suzhou classical garden art exhibition, the establishment of a "sister garden" partnership between the Lion Grove Garden and Butchart Gardens, and captivating performances by Kunqu opera artists and intangible cultural heritage inheritors, enhancing cultural exchanges between China and Canada.

The Suzhou classical garden art exhibition, titled "A Miniature Universe: Gardens from Suzhou – Lion Grove Garden Meets Butchart Gardens," is divided into four sections: "Tracing the Roots of Jiangnan," "A Miniature Universe," "The Language of Flowers in Four Seasons," and "Garden Celebrations."
