Breakout Producer Zhang Chi Garners Acclaim for “Unwanted Mate” Amid Expanding Global Influence

LOS ANGELES, CA – June 28, 2025 — Emerging as a distinctive voice in global entertainment, Zhang Chi continues to shape powerful narratives through film and television, blending technical expertise with emotional resonance. Her most recent production, Unwanted Mate, a supernatural mini-series, has gained widespread recognition, earning the distinction of 2024’s Best Werewolf-Themed Project by popular vote and propelling several of its lead actors into the spotlight.

Chi Zhang is known for Runaway Princess Bride (2024), Burgeoning (2020) and One Million Reasons to Love a Prince (2024).

Born and raised in Beijing, China, Zhang Chi’s artistic foundation was rooted in traditional Chinese painting, calligraphy, and oil painting. This early immersion in the arts laid the groundwork for a future in storytelling. After pursuing a degree in Arts, Entertainment, and Media Management at Columbia College Chicago, she transitioned to a career in film, beginning with a formative role at Legendary Entertainment. Her contributions to large-scale productions such as Dune, Enola Holmes, Godzilla vs. Kong, and Detective Pikachu laid a strong groundwork for her transition into producing.

Over time, Zhang Chi’s focus turned to vertical-format TV series—an emerging format resonating with younger audiences around the world. Her work as a producer on a wide range of titles, including My Mom's Best Friend, The Chop, Anino, and 28 Days with the Alpha, has demonstrated a consistent ability to fuse creative vision with logistical precision.

Unwanted Mate marked a milestone in her career. Shot across four locations over the course of 12 intensive days, the project faced numerous challenges, from unpredictable weather in Fresno to on-the-spot script revisions. Despite the constraints of a limited crew and budget, the production delivered high-impact results through disciplined planning, collaborative leadership, and adaptive decision-making.

The series follows the emotionally layered journey of Evelyn, a resilient orphan navigating a dangerous supernatural world. Zhang Chi’s personal connection to the character shaped the tone of the series, anchoring fantasy elements in authentic emotional storytelling. This fusion of genre and sincerity helped build a deeply loyal fanbase and earned the project both critical and popular acclaim.

In parallel to the success of Unwanted Mate, Zhang Chi has continued to gain international recognition. Her work has been officially selected by major festivals such as the Ecozine Film Festival (2025), Rhode Island International Film Festival (2024), Greenpoint Film Festival (2024), Berlin Indie Film Festival (2024), and the LA Independent Women Film Awards (2024).

Currently, Zhang Chi is developing multiple new projects—two in collaboration with DramaBox and twelve under the Gingerbread Man Pictures banner. Though details remain confidential, these ventures are expected to continue her commitment to emotionally driven storytelling with global appeal.

Zhang Chi’s body of work consistently reflects a mission to amplify underrepresented perspectives and foster empathy through narrative. With each project, she reinforces the transformative power of storytelling to cross cultural boundaries and inspire connection.
