Dr. Matthew Vaccaro in the Chatham and Green Village, New Jersey area recently performed a comprehensive dental restoration for a patient in need. Through the Dental Lifeline Network’s Donated Dental Services (DDS) program, Dr. Vaccaro was able to provide the treatment free of charge.

For some people, obtaining vital dental care that involves major restorative procedures capable of improving both dental health and function may be financially out of reach. Dr. Matthew Vaccaro, a dentist in New Jersey and the founder of Vaccaro Aesthetic and Family Dentistry in the Green Village and Chatham area, has been able to treat many patients who are in this situation through a special program called Donated Dental Services (DDS), a part of the Dental Lifeline Network. One of Dr. Vaccaro’s recent DDS patients, Sharon, needed to have several teeth extracted and replaced with a full set of custom dentures. Dr. Vaccaro says the treatment was a great success and has dramatically improved Sharon’s oral health and dental function while enhancing smile aesthetics at the same time. 

Through the Dental Lifeline Network’s Donated Dental Services program, Dr. Vaccaro was able to fulfill Sharon’s dental care needs at no financial cost to her. One of the major aspects of the DDS’ mission is to provide individuals who are disabled, elderly, and/or are experiencing conditions which make them medically fragile with access to dental care that is completely free of charge. Launched in 1985, DDS has established a presence in every U.S. state. 15,000 volunteer dentists and 3,400 dental laboratories are part of the program. Nearly $500 million in donated dental therapies and over 165,000 patients have been treated since DDS began. Dr. Vaccaro says the Dental Lifeline Network’s goal to help vulnerable individuals who have no other options to obtain necessary dental care is realized again and again through its flagship DDS program, and he couldn’t be happier to be a part of it. “In Sharon’s case, she went through extractions followed by the placement of full upper and lower dentures. It has been a rough road for her, but we are excited to say she is very happy!” 

Sharon’s treatment essentially involved a comprehensive reconstruction of teeth utilizing dentures on both the upper and lower dental arches. Dr. Vaccaro says this type of dental treatment can not only improve overall oral health, but the dentures can also enhance chewing and speaking abilities, not to mention the transformative effects they can bring to the look of one’s smile. 

Dr. Vaccaro notes that he and his entire team are incredibly proud of Sharon, and seeing her new smile light up the room is one of the most heart-warming aspects of the process. Ultimately, Dr. Vaccaro explains, the Donated Dental Services program has helped so many people across the country with needs just like Sharon’s, and he hopes to continue volunteering for the Dental Lifeline Network for many years to come.
