From the snowy mountains of Wyoming to the pine forests of North Carolina, a couple’s cross-country journey gives rise to a sanctuary of nature, wellness, and learning (PRUnderground) June 26th, 2025 ![]() Gratitude Farm and Retreat is the newest gem in Halifax County’s growing agritourism movement, offering a one-of-a-kind blend of environmental education, equine connection, and forest-inspired wellness. Run by Rick and Anpeytu Neier, the 75-acre sanctuary tucked along Fishing Creek Road in Enfield began with a bold decision: to leave behind the rugged beauty of Jackson, Wyoming, and start a new life rooted in sustainability and healing. After finding their Enfield property on Zillow, the couple packed up their lives, including seven horses, two dogs, and three elusive cats, and embarked on a journey eastward in October 2022. The move itself was epic, with winter roads, barn building, and horse corral improvisation marking just the beginning of their adventure. What emerged is a woodland oasis where nature thrives, and people are invited to connect, with the land, with animals, and with themselves. On May 16, 2025, in partnership with Halifax Community College, the Neiers hosted their first retreat: Artspalooza – Where the Arts Meet the Earth, a day-long celebration of creativity and ecology. It marked the beginning of what they hope will become a series of regenerative retreats blending the arts, nature, and hands-on learning. “Our goal is to support healing, of the earth and of people,” said Anpeytu. “We’re creating a space where community, conservation, and creativity come together.” Upcoming offerings include:
Anpeytu, who spent 13 years on mounted patrol in Wyoming assisting with crowd and traffic control during peak tourist season, calls their five Spanish Mustangs “wellness horses” who “know what you’re about before you do.” Gratitude Farm is also home to beavers, bobcats, coyotes, raccoons, and wild turkey, all coexisting within the regenerated woodland habitat. The couple’s deep respect for nature is reflected in every corner of the property, from its forested trails to its tranquil ponds. “When people ask why we moved here, we say it’s the land,” said Anpeytu. “We love it. It’s beautiful, peaceful, and full of possibility.” For those interested in attending an upcoming retreat or camping on the property, please contact the Neiers directly.
