Veteran Excellence: The Metal Shop Earns Prestigious VOSB Certification from the SBA

By: PRLog

The Metal Shop, based in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, has been officially certified as a Veteran Owned Small Business (VOSB) by the SBA, recognizing the owner's Navy service and the company's adherence to rigorous standards. This prestigious certification positions The Metal Shop as a trusted partner for government contracts.

PLEASANT PRAIRIE, Wis. - March 18, 2024 - PRLog -- The Metal Shop, a leading metal fabrication company located in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, is proud to announce its recent recognition by the United States Small Business Administration (SBA) as a Veteran Owned Business. This prestigious acknowledgment comes as a result of the owner's distinguished service in the United States Navy and the company's commitment to meeting the stringent criteria set forth by the SBA.

With over 50 years of fabrication experience, The Metal Shop has amassed a diverse range of skills and knowledge drawn from a variety of industries, ranging from mold-making and machining to professional racing. However, our specialty has been the fabrication of custom trade show exhibits. Organically we have come to expand our client base to be more diversified with OEM, retail and many other industries producing end use products and components.

The Metal Shop is now officially certified as a Veteran Owned Small Business (VOSB), a designation reserved for businesses that are at least 51% owned by a veteran and are registered as a small business with SAM.gov. The SBA's certification process ensures that businesses meet specific size standards and adhere to rigorous eligibility criteria, solidifying The Metal Shop's status as a trusted partner for government contracts.

Being recognized as a Veteran Owned Small Business opens up a myriad of opportunities for The Metal Shop. Under the VA's Vets First program, certified VOSBs are able to pursue sole-source and set-aside contracts at the Department of Veterans Affairs, providing them with a competitive advantage in federal procurement processes. Additionally, certified service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses (SDVOSBs) have the opportunity to compete for federal contracts across various agencies, enhancing their ability to secure valuable business opportunities.

The benefits of this certification extend beyond government contracts. Certified VOSBs have access to a range of resources and tools provided by the SBA, including assistance in preparing for federal procurement, connecting with commercial supply chains, accessing capital, and mitigating disaster damage. Furthermore, certification opens doors to networking opportunities within the local business community and the ability to purchase surplus federal property.

"We are incredibly honored to receive this recognition from the United States Small Business Administration," said Todd Swift, owner of The Metal Shop. "As a veteran-owned business (Go Navy!), we take great pride in our commitment to excellence and service, and we are excited about the opportunities that lie ahead as we continue to grow and expand our operations."

The Metal Shop's achievement in attaining certification as a Veteran Owned Small Business is a testament to its dedication to excellence, service, and integrity. With this prestigious designation, The Metal Shop is poised to embark on a new chapter of growth and success.

About:

The Metal Shop was started in 2002 by Duane Swift. After spending 30 years in the Navy and working for another exhibit company, the opportunity to start a small business was offered. From the very humble beginnings of one drill press and MIG welder, Duane was off and running. Since that date, the company has remained small but has gone from those meager tools to machinery assets of over one million dollars. We have expanded our manufacturing space four times, and currently have 35,000 square feet of manufacturing space and approximately 10 employees.
