Dan Stahlschmidt Joins Academy Securities as Managing Director, Head of Equity Capital Markets

Academy Securities, a registered broker-dealer, certified Disabled Veteran Business Enterprise (DVBE), and Minority Business Enterprise (MBE), today announced the addition of Dan Stahlschmidt as Managing Director, Head of Equity Capital Markets. This position was formerly held by Bret Lowry, who will now assume the role of Managing Director, Head of Special Situations.

Mr. Stahlschmidt brings a unique background to Academy, most recently leading UBS’s Midwest Equities Execution and an institutional equity sales trader for nearly 7 years. Prior to UBS, Mr. Stahlschmidt held positions in equity sales at Oppenheimer & Co. and Jefferies. Mr. Stahlschmidt spent 10 years as a Naval Aviator with over 60 combat missions during Operation Iraqi Freedom. As Managing Director, Mr. Stahlschmidt will focus on expanding the Firm’s equity business and presence in the Chicago area. Mr. Lowry will be tasked with expanding Academy’s participation in unique transactions and targets of opportunity in his new role.

“The Firm is thrilled to enhance our Equity Capital Markets team with the addition of Dan Stahlschmidt,” stated Academy’s Chairman and CEO Chance Mims. “He will help Academy take the next step in its goal to deliver industry leading service to our clients and partners.”

Mr. Stahlschmidt holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the Naval Academy and an MBA from the University of Virginia (Darden). Mr. Stahlschmidt will be based in Chicago where he resides with his wife (also Navy veteran) and their three children.

Mr. Stahlschmidt commented on joining Academy Securities: “It’s great to be working with a team of veterans because there is something special about the shared military experience. When you are in the military, you learn to work for the good of the organization, not just your own self-interests. There is inherent trust that you are all working for a common goal, and I am excited to be a part of an organization like that again.”

“We are excited to add another talented industry and military veteran to the team. While Dan’s background and equity expertise will be extremely valuable to our clients, Bret’s new role will expand the firm’s ability to help meet their everchanging needs as well,” stated Academy’s President Phil McConkey.
