Hartford Funds Advances Plans for Offering Active Semi-Transparent ETFs

Hartford Funds announced today that the firm is advancing its plan to offer active semi-transparent ETFs by filing for an exemptive order to allow it to launch products using Fidelity Investments’ active equity ETF methodology, which Hartford Funds has agreed to license from Fidelity.

Fidelity’s active equity ETF model employs an innovative “tracking basket” methodology, which maintains the benefits of the ETF structure, provides information to market participants to promote efficient trading of shares, and preserves the ability to add value through active management.

“This relationship with Fidelity gives us the opportunity to expand and strengthen the options we’re offering to our clients and the broader marketplace,” said Vernon Meyer, Chief Investment Officer at Hartford Funds. “By leveraging the active equity ETF model, we can deliver the benefits of active management in a tax-efficient and cost-effective wrapper to both financial professionals and investors.”

“We are excited to partner with Hartford Funds as they license Fidelity’s active equity ETF methodology and work to develop a new offering to help meet the evolving needs of their clients,” said Greg Friedman, Head of ETF Management and Strategy at Fidelity. “Our innovative methodology is designed to operate seamlessly within the existing ETF market.”
