Our stretch of pleasant weather continues this weekend, though the afternoons will be warmer.



Warmer weather arrives ahead of next cold front, rain chance

Meteorologist Grant Skinner here in the Weather Center. A dry, warm start to the week with a mix of clouds and sunshine. Highs will reach the low 80s into Monday and Tuesday. Then our next front arrives. It'll bring a better chance for showers and brief storms. Once that front passes, the cooler air arrives. Highs dropping to around 70, so I brought the pumpkins in because it'll be more of a fall-like feel to end the week. The rest of this evening, very comfortable, and the upper 60s. By 9 p.m., mid-60s by 11 o'clock, and we only drop to around 60 overnights a night. So warmer overall, thanks to high pressure in place and upper level ridge building over the area, keeping our temperatures warm. 62 in Fayetteville, 55 Roxboro, 58 to start your Monday in Rocky Mount, 60 to start your day in Southern Pines. Throughout the day tomorrow, highs warm to the low 80s, 82 by 3 o'clock. And we'll see partly cloudy skies, mixed cloud cover, around 70 degrees by 8 p.m., so another comfortable evening, but warmer across the area ahead of this front. Once this front passes, we'll have much cooler air by Thursday, but first, we'll have to deal with a better chance for showers, maybe some brief storms or 5 day rainfall totals, looking a little bit more elevated now for areas closer to the sand hills. Now, this might be because Once that front passes and moves offshore, we could see an area of low pressure develop that could bring some extra showers to our southern spots. We have to watch and see how that develops over time. For the most part, most places can expect around 1/4 inch to 3/4 of an inch of rain from this front passing, but our southern spots again, could see more rain from that system passing and, maybe an area of low pressure bringing some extra rain. For now, less than a 20% rain chance from Thursday through the weekend to account for that area of low pressure developing, maybe bringing some extra cloud cover. That's been a recent trend with forecast models, so we'll see how that develops over time. For now though, a warm start to the week, Monday, Tuesday at 82 for the high, and a better chance for showers and reef storms arrives by Wednesday, finally cooler to end the work week.
