A Durham Police officer shot an armed person in the parking lot of Food Lion on Hope Valley Road early Sunday morning. Police were initially called there for reports of a "car club" racing in the area just after midnight.

THE WRAL BREAKING NEWS TRACKER GOT THIS FOOTAGE NEW THE FOOD LION ON HOPE VALLEY ROAD DURHAM. POLICE SAY THIS ALL STARTED AFTER REPORTS OF A CAR CLUB THAT WAS STREET RACING IN THE AREA AFTER OFFICERS GOT THERE. SOMEBODY STARTED THROWING THINGS AT THE POLICE CAR AND WAS THEN CONFRONTED BY AN OFFICER. THERE WAS THEN A FOOT CHASE THROUGH POLICE, THEN SAYING A PERSON HAD A GUN AND REFUSED TO DROP IT. THAT'S WHEN THE OFFICER SHOT THEM. THE SUSPECT THEN GOT INTO A CAR WHICH DROVE OFF OTHER OFFICERS. STOP THAT CAR PROVIDED AID UNTIL AN AMBULANCE TOOK THE SUSPECT TO THE HOSPITAL.
