For Brutal Flu Season, Beautifully Healthy Kombucha Encourages Immunity-Boosting Practices

Founder believes proactive choices are going to be just as critical as anything else for the 2021-2022 flu season

CHICAGO, IL / ACCESSWIRE / November 17, 2021 / The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention influenza experts are concerned that the United States could be at risk for a severe 2021-2022 flu season. CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky says seasonal flu cases reached an all-time low last year when large parts of the nation were shut down due to the Covid 19 pandemic. Because of that, the U.S. may have reduced immunity against influenza this year.

The CDC urges Americans to get flu shots and COVID-19 vaccinations to protect themselves - and there are also lifestyle modifications that can be implemented to help strengthen the immune system. A healthy diet with whole plant foods like fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and legumes is an excellent place to start. Foods rich in nutrients and antioxidants may increase energy levels and provide extra defense against harmful pathogens. Meanwhile, the fiber in plant foods feeds the community of healthy bacteria in the gut called the gut microbiome.

A growing body of research suggests adding fermented foods or a probiotic to the daily diet will also benefit the body's immune system. Basant Khanna of Beautifully Healthy Kombucha says, "replacing coffee with a beverage like Kombucha is a good way to get the added benefit of a probiotic as Kombucha is fermented, and the fermentation process creates probiotics. Kombucha is also a rich source of antioxidants, which increase immunity."

Stress levels are another factor that may affect immunity. Khanna says, "high-stress levels reduce the immune system's ability to fight off antigens. That is why we are more susceptible to infections. Stress in its acute form, the so-called fight-or-flight response, is good. Our ancestors learned this when they were threatened by saber-toothed tigers. Stress on a chronic level, such as worrying about your job or financial security, relationships, or your health or the health of your loved ones is not good. Over time, it can knock down our immunologic health."

Khanna suggests reducing caffeine intake is one way to lower stress. Too much caffeine can cause shakiness, headache, abnormal heartbeat, and even contribute to high blood pressure. Kombucha can be the perfect substitute for coffee as it contains only tiny amounts of natural caffeine.

A few simple dietary changes can contribute to improved immunity against this season's potentially severe strain of influenza. Khanna says, "diet is also a major factor in achieving long-term health. I empower people on how they can take care of their health easily by choosing to consume foods and drinks that have long-term health benefits."
