Multiple cars were hit by gunfire on Wednesday morning along Interstate 40 near Chapel Hill Road, adding to similar reports of cars being shot at on Monday.

<p>I wanna thank you for joining us here at the City Valley Emergency Operations Center. My name is Lieutenant Jason. Go as the tenant for the police department. Mm Major Brian Harrison and Operations division, Captain Matt Fire of our investigative division, uh chief of staff who oversees our investigative division and W Chief Voice Voice will be speaking on behalf of our PPD today regarding several series of internet. Um to the, what is your thank you RT. Good afternoon. I'm Deputy Chief Nico Boyce and I oversee our food operations and our Special Operations division which include our traffic unit. I'm here providing an update regarding incidents on interstate 40 in Raleigh's jurisdiction. I want to emphasize that this is an active investigation and this information is preliminary, the safety of our community priority for the Raleigh police come while the police department is investigating incidents of shots being fired into vehicles in the early morning hours on Monday, November 4th, we responded to a report of shots being fired into a vehicle on interstate 40 near the Chapel Hill road arrival is located in with the no light but you see the gunshot wound to her leg she was transported to the hospital for treatment and we continue to pray for her short recovery. Later that same day, we responded to an additional victim who reported that a single gunshot had struck their vehicle, no injuries in this sense. The victim was also traveling in interstate 40 near the B road exit this morning. At approximately 4:58 a.m. The Raleigh Police Department responded to a report of a vehicle struck by gunfire along interstate 540 at the Chapel Hill road exit during the course of the investigation, additional victims reported that their vehicles also struck by gunfire shortly after original car came in but no one was injured during this morning's incident. We are actively working to identify the individual or individuals responsible. We are incredibly fortunate and thankful no one was injured in today's incident. However, we recognize that these events are extremely concerning and frightening to those that are traveling on that stretch of highway that we are taking these incidents very seriously. The Valley Police Department and our law enforcement partners in the area are dedicated to promoting and ensuring the safety of all individuals traveling on that stretch of road. Here in our jurisdiction. In response, you will see a large police presence around interstate 40 in the impacted areas. We are working closely with the Milcom State Highway patrol, the Bay County Sheriff's office and the Carry Police Department to investigate these incidents. We are asking for the public to contact us if they recall anything that may be valuable to this investigation. This includes recalling a suspicious vehicle, a person of interstate 40 during the early morning hours on Monday or today. Additionally, if you have dash cam operating while traveling on this stretch of road, please contact us. You may have information that could lead to the identification of the person or persons responsible for this. I want the community to know that your safety is a top priority for the Raleigh Police Department and we are committed to ensuring the safety of all those who travel on our streets and highways. Here in the city of Raleigh, the Public Affairs Office will provide additional information at information at the appropriate time and at this time, I will take questions. Um You said that this morning, it was near Chapel Hill Road. We were hearing that it was uh Gorman Street. Is that now incorrect? It was Chapel Hill Road. The reported incident, the reported location was at 40 Chapel Hill Road and like I say, this case is still under investigation, but alone it was along that I 40 Corridor, Harrison. Any idea what type of weapon yet? What type of gun? What we do know right now is that this is a handgun, what we believe to be a handgun. Uh We're also like, say investigating this to see if something changes. But right now we believe it's a handgun, just you said additional victims have come forward. I mean, can we get a, a good count as to how many cars have been struck by gunfire at this point? Yes, ma'am. Great question. What I can say is we've had a total of six incidents. We had two on Monday and we had four today. Among those six incidents, we have multiple victims because some of those vehicles were occupied by multiple, multiple occupants. So I don't have the exact number. Yeah. Um, we believe it's a handgun. Do you have any idea if this person is traveling in a vehicle or if they're posted up and shooting not traveling in? I cannot confirm that information right now. Chelsea Ball 40 is a highway. We travel all the time. I mean, what would be your message for motorists who could be thinking, is there a sniper out there at this point? What I can say is that the Raleigh Police Department and our law enforcement partners taking this very seriously, we're gonna be out there until we find who is responsible for this incident. Uh Obviously a lot of people do travel that roadway. Uh This is a priority for the Raleigh Police Department and we're gonna do all we can to identify and find who is responsible for this. So I wanna ensure the community that we are working to make sure that we find who is responsible for this last question. And so do you believe that these incidents of Big two on Monday and before this morning are related, there are some of the same people perpetrating these, what I can confirm is that we do believe that some of these incidents are connected. Uh That's based on some of the, some of the uh evidence that we have uh recovered already. Uh But we're actively investigating that to look at exactly who is responsible and if they all are connected, but we do believe that some are. Thank you all.</p>
