Over four days, 12 incidents of cars, homes hit by gunfire in southwest Raleigh area

Officer for the Raleigh Police Department. We are providing an update on a series of shootings that happened in our community today yesterday and on Monday, joining us today is Captain Matthew Fry with our investigative division chief of staff, Amanda Roll, also overseeing our investigative division, major Brian Harrison or a field operations division. Deputy Chief Zachary Laschet, deputy Chief Rico Voice, our senior manager Marcel Adams David and of course, Chief Patterson, after Chief Patterson's statement today, we will go ahead and take a few questions related to the incident. Chief Patterson. Good afternoon and thank you for being here at state. My name is Estella Patterson and I serve as the chief of police for the Raleigh Police Department. And I'm here to provide an update on the series of shootings in the southwest area of our community. As you know, this is an ongoing investigation and the information that I'm providing is what we know to date since this Monday RPD has investigated 12 reports of shots fired at motor vehicles and buildings in the vicinity of I 40 I 440 with one V one victim being struck by gunfire. I am thankful that no one has been seriously injured as a result of these incidents. At this time, we do believe that the 12 incidents are related. I can also confirm that we have identified a person of interest and this person has been detained. However, we will continue to pursue all leads. We understand that the community is concerned and fear naturally follows whenever incidents of this magnitude occurs. I am a Raleigh resident too and I share your sentiments. We are actively working with an incredible team of local state and federal partners who have graciously provided personnel and other resources to aid us in pursuing every lead. Our collaborative team is working nonstop around the clock and will continue to do so. Please rest assured that the Raleigh Police Department and our law enforcement partners in the area are dedicated to promoting and ensuring the safety of our community. You have seen a presence of law enforcement officers along interstate I four or I 40 in impacted neighborhoods, this visibility presence will continue and it is also a testament of our commitment to the safety of our entire community. While we are following up on every investigative lead and utilizing our best data and intelligence, we will continue to implore the community that if you can recall anything, if you have seen anything that might be valuable to this investigation. This includes recalling any suspicious vehicles or persons anywhere near the locations of these incidents. We are asking if you have surveillance or dash cam footage or anything of value in those areas where we have had incidents to please call us. Uh, earlier today RPD told us that the incident around NC state was no credible threat to the public. How were you able to come to that decision? Knowing there was a suspect that was still out there and we had no confirmation at that point that those incidents were related. So we made a decision based on the information that we had at the time and then continue to work those investigations as much as we can. Um I'm very pleased to say that we have a person of interest detained and we are going to continue to follow that lead in any other leads that we have Harrison. Uh Do we have any idea yet whether or not this person may have been on foot in another car in any of these instance? We're still investigating that we don't have that information, Bob W TV. D uh how many people were taken in custody? We saw two on our helicopter video. We currently have two individuals detained and you mentioned 12 incidents. Is that, that is correct. We have had um a total of 12 incidents. We had eight vehicles fired into and then two buildings and I believe that we have shared that information with you with each particular incident. Does that include the trail wood incident from this morning? Because earlier we were saying we're investigating it as a separate incident. Um Yes, we have included the trail wood incident. In fact, we have had two incidents on trail wood and both are included hardly one and one of the people that was detained, was that at the Kenford Court location? And what's the significance of that location? Um I don't know that we have, can we be safe. Do you wanna? Yes, the investigation led us to that location. Uh When we got there, uh the person of interest was inside the residence as well as someone else. Uh that's tied to that residence. So we have two people detained at Kenford. Thank you very much.
