Multiple fire crews were called to a brush fire along Interstate 540 on Saturday. The Wake County Sheriff's Office told WRAL News the fires are being investigated as reports of arson.

KIRSTEN, YOU SPOKE WITH DRIVERS WHO SAY THEY SAW UP TO 8 DIFFERENT AREAS THAT WERE SCORCHED. >> THAT'S RIGHT. GRACE, WAKE COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPUTIES WERE ON SCENE TODAY AS FIREFIGHTERS FROM SEVERAL LOCAL DEPARTMENTS WORKED TO PUT OUT THOSE FLAMES AND SPOKE IN SMOKE. NOW WE SPOKE WITH 2 PEOPLE WHO DROVE PAST THOSE FIRES AND IT CAME AS NO SHOCK TO THEM THAT THIS IS BEING INVESTIGATED AS ARSON BASED ON THE DAMAGE THEY SAW. >> A SHOCKING SIGHT ALONG I-540, WEST TAYLOR, SAUDI. DESCRIBE TO US THE MOMENT HE FIRST NOTICED THE FLAMES AND SMOKE SHORTLY AFTER 2.30. AND THEN IT'S LIKE YOU GO DRIVE A LITTLE ANOTHER FIRE IF YOU DRIVE. WE'RE DEFINITELY ON SOMEONE ELSE'S ANOTHER FIRE. AND THIS TIME THERE WAS LIKE 8 FIRES. >> ROUGHLY. AND WHAT WAS YOUR INITIAL REACTION WHEN YOU SAW THIS? >> SOMEBODY MUST'VE BURN THE GRASS. I DON'T. I DIDN'T KNOW WHY OR WHY. BUT IT DIDN'T LOOK CONTROLLED AND THERE IS NO ONE NEAR IT. AND THEY WERE SO SPREAD OUT THAT IT DIDN'T FEEL IRAN. A deadly crash involving two vehicles happened Friday evening along Watson Seed Farm Road near North Carolina Highway 48 in Nash County. Authorities said a 49-year-old driver died in the crash. No names have been released.
