MILWAUKEE, September 27, 2021 /3BL Media/ - Rockwell Automaton’s Linda Freeman, Entertainment & Amusement industry manager, has received the prestigious Society of Women Engineers (SWE) Fellow Grade Professional Award. The honor recognizes her continuous service to the advancement of women in the engineering profession.
“Every day I carry the SWE mission and strategic objectives forward,” Freeman said. She joined SWE in 1991 as a college freshman. “SWE became my DNA.”
A certified functional safety instructor, Freeman is a frequently sought-after speaker on functional safety and cybersecurity as well as the role of women in engineering. She was instrumental in launching Rockwell’s Supporting Women in Engineering employee resource group in 2006. She also mentors students through SWE, FIRST Robotics, AIMS International (a safety education organization), and ASTM International (a global standards organization).
“Linda’s technical accomplishments serve as a role model for other women,” said Annmarie Connor, SWE President FY21, Central Florida Section.
“She continuously looks for opportunities to connect people, ideas, and action,” added Rockwell’s Michele Matthai, director, Culture of Inclusion and Diversity. “Linda has a passion and natural insight to help women at all levels benefit from SWE’s work.”
Freeman’s recognition is part of SWE’s annual awards program that celebrates industry movers and shakers across the globe who are making significant contributions to the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) community and the advancement of women in engineering.
“The men and women recognized have lived and learned through significant contributions to the engineering community, and they continue to lead in their careers and personal lives,” said Rachel Morford, SWE president. “They are leaders paving the way to empower and inspire future women engineers across the globe.”
This year’s SWE award recipients will be recognized at WE21, the world’s largest conference and career fair for women engineers and technologists October. 21-23, 2021 in Indianapolis, Ind.
