Asset Lofts has launched its updated loft conversion service in Northwood, Northwood Hills & Pinner. The company specialises in loft conversions to give homes an extra room.

More information is available at https://www.assetlofts.co.uk.

The newly updated service helps customers create extra living space from the largest unused are in their house. A loft conversion is a good investment to make on a property as it can give a house an extra bedroom, bathroom, games room, or study without the costs and upheaval of moving to a new place.

There are four main types of loft conversions and the one that is best for each home will depend on the property style, roof height, available space, conservation area, the local planning regulations, budget, and family needs.

A Roof-Light is a straight-forward loft conversion for lofts that already offer enough space for purpose. Asset Lofts brings in the daylight and makes the space liveable and workable. The useable area will be approximately the internal size of the loft area as it is now.

Typically, no planning permissions are needed for this type of work as it is building within the existing realms of a loft space and externally the house will look the same, except for the skylight windows. The average build time for a Roof-Light is four to six weeks. Read more here: https://www.assetlofts.co.uk/loft-conversions.

A Dormer Loft extends out of the roof space, usually to create more standing space as required. It is typically the most popular type of loft conversion when a part of the existing roof is removed and a bigger space is created by building a ‘box’ frame structure, projecting approximately from the top of the roof height and the maximum allowed to the rear and sides.

Most of the time, this procedure is allowed under permitted development rules with a certificate of lawfulness granted by the local council. The build time for a dormer loft is six to eight weeks.

A Mansard Loft conversion is created by changing one of the sloping sides of the roof into a much steeper slope. The windows are then individual dormers in keeping with the style and character of a house.

Normally this type of conversion applies to older terrace. These conversions normally require planning permissions and can be more costly because most of the existing roof has to be changed. The build time is about eight to ten weeks.

A Hip to Gable Dormer Loft is creating by extending the ‘Hip’ of the existing roof into a gable end. The Hip of a roof is generally the side that slopes down. This is removed and the new gable wall is built in either masonry or stud work, and the roof is then built across to fill in the gap.

This type of conversion is most popular on semi-detached houses and may require planning permission. It has a build time of six to eight weeks.
