Founder Tavian Hunter has launched a new UK-based private library curation service called Book Curate. This service aims to improve mental health during the pandemic by creating a relaxing sanctuary out of the client’s library.

Book Curate is a new service that aims to provide a holistic approach to organisation and decluttering through personal library curation. As part of these services, the team will catalogue the client’s library, declutter the bookshelf, and even offer curated book recommendations with an aim to promote relaxation and good mental health in a safe haven of their own making.
Most people don't read more than 2 books a year and yet the average person in London owns over 50 books. In a time where people are turning to books and yearning for tactile experiences, the last thing they need is a disorganised home causing them more anxiety when they could be enjoying the benefits of a good book. A connection with their home library will allow them an escape from the stresses of the looming second wave lockdown.
With Book Curate, clients can benefit from virtual assistance or a real-life consultation that ensures their libraries are turned into relaxing sanctuaries by removing the books that don’t fit the reading habits of the client or style of the space. They can catalogue, organise, and relocate the library to create a much more relaxing and visually welcoming reading nook in any space.
Some of the benefits of using Book Curate includes saving time on looking for books, avoiding purchasing duplicates, as well as impressing friends, displaying one’s identity, and expressing personality. A newly organised and streamlined library allows one to create a safe space or sanctuary, in which they can spend time disconnecting from an always-on lifestyle and the technology that fuels it, such as Zoom fatigue.
About Founder Tavian Hunter
Tavian is a BAME librarian who has started a library curation business during the COVID lockdown in London to help bring order to home libraries and book collections of the people of London.
Tavian received a Masters degree in Library and Information Studies from University College London in 2015 and has worked in academic, private and specialist art libraries such as the British Museum and Kew Gardens. She has spoken at conferences and seminars in the UK and abroad, including most recently at the CILIP Conference (2019), ARLIS Conference (2019) and AAS-in-Asia Conference (2018). Tavian is a member of APDO (Association of Professional Declutterers and Organisers) and a freeman of the Stationer's Company.
