WEST BAY, Honduras - Oct. 29, 2026 - PRLog -- Sun Divers Roatan has published an updated Nitrox Certification page. The PADI Enriched Air Diver course is PADI's most popular specialty worldwide, and we offer it right here in Roatan, Honduras. The refreshed page walks divers through what enriched air is, why it matters on Roatan's reefs, and what the course involves.

Standard scuba tanks hold ordinary air: 21% oxygen and 79% nitrogen. Nitrox shifts that ratio. The two most common recreational blends are EANx32 (32% oxygen) and EANx36 (36% oxygen), and the certification qualifies you to dive blends up to 40%. Less nitrogen absorbed at depth means longer no-decompression limits and more time on the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef.

Visitors will also find a clear breakdown of the PADI Enriched Air Diver course at Sun Divers:
  • Prerequisites: 12 years or older, with an Open Water certification or currently enrolled in the PADI Open Water course.
  • How it works: Theory is completed through PADI eLearning at home, so the practical session with an instructor takes about three hours and folds neatly into a standard dive day.
  • What you receive: Classroom-based instruction, one free nitrox fill, and specialty certification processing, plus one of the five specialty credits toward the Master Scuba Diver rating.
  • Price: $210 including eLearning, with a $20 discount when the course is bundled with Open Water or Advanced Open Water. Pricing is subject to Honduran sales tax.

The page also explains where nitrox earns its keep on Roatan, from Mary's Place to the Odyssey and El Aguila wrecks, and how it supports repetitive diving, a more conservative safety margin, and extra time for lionfish hunting. A Frequently Asked Questions section answers what we hear most: whether dives are required, which sites suit nitrox, and whether it is safe for newer divers.

Divers ready to extend their bottom time can read the full page and contact the Sun Divers team to add nitrox to their trip.
