With a market cap ofย $17.1 billion, Weyerhaeuser Company (WY) is one of the worldโ€™s largest private owners of timberlands, managing over 10 million acres across the United States and additional licensed lands in Canada. The company is a global leader in sustainable forestry and a major North American manufacturer of wood products, generating $6.9 billion in net sales in 2025.

Shares of the timber and paper products company have underperformed the broader market over the past 52 weeks.ย WY stock has declined 5.3% over this time frame, while the broader S&P 500 Index ($SPX)ย has rallied nearly 31%. Moreover, shares of the company are up 2.1% on a YTD basis, compared to SPXโ€™s 7.3% gain.ย

Zooming in further, shares of the Washington, USA-based company have lagged behind the State Street Real Estate Select Sector SPDR ETFโ€™s (XLRE)ย 7.6% gain over the past 52 weeks.

Despite reportingย better-than-expected Q1 2026 adjusted EPS of $0.11 on Apr. 30,ย shares of Weyerhaeuser fell 2.2% the next day, with adjusted EBITDA dropping to $308 million. Investors were also cautious about forward guidance, as Q2 performance in key segments like Timberlands and Wood Products is expected to beย largely comparable to Q1, while Strategic Land Solutions EBITDA is projected to decline by about $70 million due to the absence of a large transaction.

For the fiscal year ending in December 2026, analysts expect WYโ€™sย adjusted EPS to climb 40% year-over-year to $0.28. The companyโ€™s earnings surprise history is promising. It beat the consensus estimates in the last four quarters.ย 

Among the 13 analysts covering the stock, theย consensus rating is a โ€œModerate Buy.โ€ Thatโ€™s based on seven โ€œStrong Buyโ€ ratings, two โ€œModerate Buys,โ€ and four โ€œHolds.โ€ย

On May 5, Citiย cut its price target on Weyerhaeuser to $30 while maintaining a โ€œBuyโ€ rating.

The mean price target of $31.18 represents a 28.4% premium to WYโ€™s current price levels. The Street-high price target of $38 suggests a 56.5% potential upside.ย
