The Cathay International Chinese New Year Night Parade is making a grand comeback in Hong Kong’s Tsim Sha Tsui on the first day of the Year of the Dragon (February 10), kicking off a series of Chinese New Year celebrations in the city. Themed “World Party Great Celebration,” the parade is a showcase for colorful floats and a big line-up of international and local performances, including the Los Angeles Rams Cheerleaders. This incredible celebration of the Dragon is organized by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) with Cathay Pacific Airways, the title sponsor for the 22nd year.

Dr. Pang Yiu-kai, HKTB Chairman, said, “We have brought some of the world’s hottest performers to the party to spice up the parade and transform this traditional festival into an international mega event. The HKTB parade will be the first event to kick off a series of Chinese New Year celebratory activities in town. After the parade, we will continue to promote Chinese New Year events, including the Lunar New Year fireworks display. We invite visitors to enjoy the festival and immerse themselves in Hong Kong’s charm as an East-meets-West cosmopolitan city.”

Mr. Ronald Lam, Cathay Group Chief Executive Officer, said, “As the home carrier, rooted in Hong Kong for 77 years, Cathay has been committed to developing Hong Kong as an international aviation hub and promoting the city as a vibrant and diverse global metropolis. We are delighted to be the title sponsor of the Cathay International Chinese New Year Night Parade for the 22nd year. We look forward to these highly anticipated Chinese New Year festivities to attract more visitors to our home city and join the people of Hong Kong in experiencing its colorful and diverse festival culture.”

Floats celebrating the dragon are a feast for festivalgoers' eyes.

This year’s parade will feature nine floats, and a record-breaking 16 international performing groups along with 13 local groups. Together with other Chinese New Year elements, the colorfully adorned floats, that will include dragons, bring diverse interpretations of the New Year.

A strong line-up of international and local performers adds star power to the parade route

Kicking things into gear is a high-energy performance by the Los Angeles Rams Cheerleaders (United States), who also performed in 2017; the female pop dance group Avantgardey (Japan) will show off their best moves alongside Light Dancers (Spain) and the Universe of Lights (Germany).

Waves of Chinese New Year celebrations to spread the festive ambience

After the parade, the floats will be on public display at The Urban Council Centenary Garden, in Tsim Sha Tsui, from February 11 to 25. International teams will also perform there on February 11 and 12.
