SAG HARBOR, NY - Summer is the right time to learn to sail. Sag Harbor Sailing is now booking lessons for the 2026 season. The school has taught beginners and lifelong sailors since 1997.

The season runs from mid-May through late September. Group lessons are offered three times a day during that window. Booking early helps secure a preferred date.

The school's main course is the 2-day ASA 101 Beginner Keelboat program. ASA stands for the American Sailing Association. Sag Harbor Sailing is an accredited ASA school. The course covers the basics of sailing a small keelboat. Graduates learn to sail a 23-foot boat in light to moderate winds. No past experience is needed to start.

Lessons take place on calm, protected waters. Students sail Sag Harbor Bay and Shelter Island Sound. These back bays are sheltered and well suited to learning. The school's fleet is made up of 23-foot Pearson Ensign sailboats. These are classic keelboats that stay steady and are easy to handle.

Class sizes stay small on purpose. Private sailing lessons hold up to four students. That means each sailor gets real time at the helm. USCG-licensed captains lead every class. Instruction is hands-on from the first day on the water.

Sailing here is open to all ages. The school welcomes students from age 8 to 80 and up. Families, couples, and first-timers are all a good fit.

The school offers more than beginner lessons. Sailors can take private and group lessons at every level. Intermediate keelboat cruising instruction is also available. Those who want to keep sailing can join the Commodore Club. Members who sail more than three times a season earn savings.

Boat rentals and charters round out the schedule. Guests can rent a 23-foot Pearson Ensign with or without a captain. Captained charters are a relaxed way to enjoy the water. They suit groups, special days, and sunset sails alike.

Younger sailors have a program of their own. The youth summer camp runs Monday through Friday, July 1 to August 30. It is open to ages 9 to 16. Sessions run from 9 a.m. to noon. Campers learn to sail and try other water activities too.

Sag Harbor Sailing also works with companies. Fortune 500 teams book the school for team-building regattas. These outings mix friendly racing with time on the bay.
