While Responding to the Eaton Fire Through a Mutual Mission to Mitigate Loss of Life and Property Damage

LOS ANGELES - Oct. 21, 2025 - PRLog -- The Altadena Mountain Rescue Team (AMRT) accepted the 2025 ReadyCommunities Partnership (RCP) National Service Award for Determination and Resilience While Responding to the Eaton Fire on Thursday, October 16, 2025 at their Altadena training center within the LA County Sheriff's Department.

With approximately twelve attendees including AMRT members, Gigi Lee representing Congresswoman Judy Chu (CA-28), Altadena Station Captain Ethan Marquez, and ReadyCommunities Partnership National Director and CCROA President, Dr. Rosalie J. Wyatt who presented this award to David Chien, Altadena Mountain Rescue Team Reserve Deputy and Leader who accepted on behalf of the entire team.

While responding to the 2025 Eaton Fire, AMRT worked in the context of a mutual mission with the LA County Sheriff's Department and other local, state and national responders and "evacuated community members, detained suspected looters, mapped burned structures, helped with searches, and sheltered animals and pets (FireRescue1)".  Despite three AMRT members losing their own homes during the fire, volunteers and reserve deputies stayed in service, prioritizing the safety of those at risk above all else. Through decisive leadership, unyielding courage, and relentless dedication, AMRT saved countless lives and preserved critical community resources under catastrophic conditions.

The Altadena Mountain Rescue Team is one of eight Los Angeles County search and rescue teams comprised of 24-hour volunteer wilderness responders devoted to saving lives through safety education and mountain rescue.  Founded in 1951, the team is comprised of 35 members and conducts an average of 100 search and rescue operations each year and is part of the Sheriff's Department Reserve Forces Bureau (amrt.com).  Members train in the canyons behind Altadena and Pasadena.
