By: 3BL Media

SOURCE: VMware

DESCRIPTION:

Our Meet the Hiring Manager series allows you to get to know the people who grow teams at VMware. You’ll learn about our hiring managers’ career paths and what they look for in candidates during the interview process. This week we’d like you to meet Marc Sindlinger.

VMware Careers: Marc, tell us about your career journey to date?

Marc Sindlinger: After more than thirteen years of Global/Key Account Management roles at HP, EMC, and Juniper Networks I joined VMware in 2014 to pursue a totally new challenge. I was tasked with developing the new Network & Security Business as a Network and Security Account Executive in CEMEA. (Central Europe, Middle East & Africa). In Summer 2015 I got the opportunity to build up and lead a bigger Networking & Security Sales Team with twelve team members in Germany. This was a great experience as I like to develop and mentor new talent. I managed this team in Germany for almost five years and in this time I developed and rebuilt the team whilst also celebrating strategic customer successes. From here, I move internally to join the Core Enterprise Sales Team as a Director of Enterprise Accounts in March 2020. Within twelve months we extended and rehired a very diverse eight-person sales team that covers over seventy strategic enterprise accounts in the region.

VMware Careers: How is VMware different from other tech companies that you have worked for?

Marc Sindlinger: VMware as a Company is totally different from what I’ve experienced at other IT Tech Giants. Why? Let me tell you! I’ve known VMware from prior customer engagements since 2003 and I think the constant focus on Innovation was and is always a priority for the company and this is what sets VMware apart from other tech companies. From my point of view, we are entering the most exciting time at VMware, as we help and support our customers through their digital transformation with our innovative solutions and broad portfolio of products. Most importantly for me is the culture at VMware which is driven by our EPIC2 values. We put a huge focus on social responsibility and being a force for good in the world through the VMware Foundation and our commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

VMware Careers: What has been the biggest lesson you have learned as you moved upwards in your career?

Marc Sindlinger: Even if you cannot change everything you are aiming for, stay focussed and try to make a difference in your own way as much as possible, and always be yourself! Technology will continue to change but the people around you are what matters most. Leading with an inclusive open management style will help to accelerate achievements with the next digital generation.

VMware Careers: Your team is hiring. Can you tell us more?

Marc Sindlinger: I am looking for people who appreciate development, team spirit, coaching, and diverse perspectives. These are key elements for success in my core sales team. It’s a really exciting time to join us are we are working with strategic and development enterprise accounts, helping them to accelerate their digital transformation journey.

VMware Careers: Your team has an impressive representation of 50% men and 50% women, tell us why this representation is important to you?

Marc Sindlinger: Overall diversity for me is very important for a healthy and successful team. I don’t just mean gender diversity, I believe it is extremely important to have a team of people who have a diverse range of experiences, attitudes, values, genders, and opinions. This creates a rich and interesting workplace. When all voices are heard we can develop ourselves forward together.

VMware Careers: If someone reading this was coming for an interview with you tomorrow what advice would you give them?

Marc Sindlinger: Be authentic, ambitious, bold, and have an open positive mindset. Passion and drive are what matters most in these ever-changing unprecedented times.
