Professional Guide to Evaluating Traction Elevator Quality

Introduction

Evaluating a traction elevator’s quality goes beyond its interior design. To ensure long-term reliability and passenger safety, you must assess four core dimensions: Safety Compliance, Core Components, Ride Quality, and Maintenance. Use this professional guide to perform a comprehensive evaluation.

1. Safety & Compliance (The "Red Line")

Safety is the most critical factor. An elevator must meet international standards (such as EN81-20/50 or GB 7588-2023).

Certifications: Verify the "Special Equipment Manufacturing License" and "Type Test Reports."

Safety Devices: The Speed Governor and Safety Gear must be responsive. In an overspeed simulation, they must stop the car reliably.

Interlocking System: Both car and landing doors must have mechanical and electrical interlocks. The elevator should never start if a door is even slightly open.

Emergency Features: Ensure the ARD (Automatic Rescue Device), emergency lighting, and 5-way intercom are fully functional.

2. Core Components (Life-span & Reliability)

The "Heart" and "Brain" of the elevator determine its maintenance costs over the next 15-20 years.

Traction Machine (The Heart): High-quality elevators use Permanent Magnet Synchronous (PMSM) Gearless machines. They are energy-efficient, low-noise, and maintenance-free.

Door Operator (The High-Frequency Point): Look for VVVF door controllers. Opening and closing should be smooth, without jerks or loud mechanical strikes. Infrared Light Curtains are a must for anti-pinch safety.

Control System (The Brain): A microcomputer-based AC-VVVF system ensures precise leveling and offers self-diagnostic capabilities for faster repairs.

Suspension: Steel ropes or belts must be free of corrosion, broken wires, or uneven tension.

3. Ride Quality (User Experience)

The hallmark of a premium elevator lies in its "invisibility"—you should never notice it operating.

Stability: Vibration levels must be minimized.

Vertical vibration: ≤15 cm/s²

Horizontal vibration: ≤10 cm/s²

Floor Leveling Accuracy:

At speeds ≤2.5 m/s: error ≤±15 mm

At speeds >2.5 m/s: error ≤±30 mm

Noise Control: Cabin noise should be ≤55 dB (residential grade). For machine-room-less units, noise ≤45 dB is considered excellent.

4. Quick On-Site Inspection Method

Use the "Listen, Look, Feel" technique during a test ride:

  1. Listen: Are there grinding noises or wind whistles during high-speed travel?
  2. Look: Does the car floor align perfectly with the hallway floor? Check the "Safety Inspection" certificate date.
  3. Feel: Do you feel a "sinking" sensation (G-force) during start-up or braking? Quality elevators have a seamless acceleration curve.
  4. Test: Press the emergency call button and check if the response from the control room is clear.
