E-File the Updated Form 941 for 2nd Quarter of 2021 with ExpressEfile

ROCK HILL, SC / ACCESSWIRE / July 6, 2021 / The IRS released an updated version of Form 941 for the second quarter of 2021. IRS changes include 23 updated fields and four new worksheets. Employers need to file the revised Form 941 for q2 by August 2, 2021 to meet their second quarter deadline.

Businesses use Form 941 to report amounts withheld from employee paychecks for income, Social Security, and Medicare taxes. Employers with one or more employees file Form 941 every quarter. Over the past few quarters, Form 941 has been updated multiple times to reflect provisions for COVID-19.

Following new developments in COVID-19 tax relief, the IRS updated Form 941 for Q2 once again. On March 11, 2021, congress signed the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARP) into law, rolling out expanded tax credits for businesses.

Under the ARP, sick and family leave wages have been extended to cover time off for COVID-19 tests, vaccination, and recovery, and employee retention credit now covers up to 70% of eligible employee wages. The ARP also introduced COBRA premium assistance. This 100% COBRA subsidy allows employers to recover premiums collected by eligible individuals between April 1, 2021 and September 30, 2021.

The revised fields on Form 941 let employers report necessary information about sick and family leave wages, employee retention credit, and the new COBRA premium assistance. Four additional Form 941 worksheets and an updated Worksheet 1 help employers calculate refundable and nonrefundable amounts for all three COVID-19 tax credits.

ExpressEfile, a SPAN Enterprises product, is supporting the most up-to-date version of Form 941 and Worksheets 1-5 for the second quarter of 2021.
