Fannie Mae Offers Incentive to Dallas Area Property Owners to Rent to Tenants Using Rental Vouchers

Fannie Mae, a leading source of mortgage financing, has launched a new program in Texas and North Carolina offering a financing incentive to landlords of multifamily rental properties who agree to rent to voucher holders. Dallas, Texas is one city where Fannie Mae will offer this incentive and test out additional strategies to drive adoption.

DHA, Housing Solutions for North Texas offers rental assistance for private market housing through the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program. The agency currently enjoys productive work relationships with more than 5,000 landlords across North Texas through the voucher program.

The HCV program is a federally funded program designed to help eligible low-income persons, the elderly and persons with disabilities reside in quality affordable housing. DHA pays $18 million per month in rent contributions across North Texas through its housing voucher program. The agency screens prospective tenants based on federal criteria as outlined by HUD and conducts thorough recertifications annually.

“We are constantly working to create innovative solutions for promoting sustainable affordable housing and benefitting renters,” says Fannie Mae Executive Vice President and Head of Multifamily, Michele Evans. “Our Expanded Housing Choice initiative can help expand housing access for people who use vouchers; build strong, vibrant resident communities; and support steady income streams for property owners,” she continues.

“There is a clear need for more affordable housing in Dallas and the surrounding North Texas area,” says DHA President and CEO, Troy Broussard. “We look forward to seeing how this initiative can drive increased access and opportunity for the community of voucher holders in the multifamily market.”

DHA’s mission is to provide affordable, quality housing and access to supportive resources across North Texas. To learn more, please visit: https://dhantx.com/.
