HomeServe Commemorates National Tradesperson Day

Extends Sincere Gratitude to the More than 1,200 Skilled Tradesmen and Women Working Throughout Our Company

Every day, skilled HomeServe tradesmen and women complete as many as 1,000 jobs quickly and expertly for homeowners across the country. What’s more, over 2,600 independent contractors – small businesses employing skilled trades workers in communities across the country – complete thousands more jobs for our customers. These professionals are there to get homeowners’ lives back up and running in the wake of inconvenient and frustrating home repair emergencies. On this National Tradesperson Day, HomeServe wants to express its appreciation to these skilled workers for their commitment to their trades and to customers.

A lack of qualified electricians, plumbers and other skilled workers has been well documented in recent years. A recent HomeServe State of the American Home survey examined some of the perceptions around skilled trades, including perceived starting salaries.

A large percentage of respondents greatly underestimated the starting yearly salary of a skilled tradesperson (e.g., electrician, plumber), with some (8%) believing it would be less than $25,000. In reality, according to ServiceTitan.com, the average annual base salary for an entry-level electrician is $53,600, while entry-level plumbers can expect to make almost $50,000 a year with that number quickly increasing to almost $60,000 with just two years of experience.

The survey also gauged perceptions of whether U.S. high schools give the appropriate amount of attention to non-four year college post-high school options, like skilled trades. More than half of respondents (57%) thought that the appropriate amount of attention was either not or probably not given to education about the skilled trades.

“The talented professionals in the skilled trades make up an incredibly important part of the American workforce,” said Deb Dulsky, President of HomeServe HVAC. “Much of the time, they’re the ones coming to the rescue in a homeowner or renter’s time of need – when an unexpected home repair pops up. And ultimately, they’re the individuals responsible for keeping a home’s systems up and running.”

HomeServe is committed to supporting those already in the trades and to fostering opportunities to encourage more people to go into the profession through skilled apprenticeship programs, mentoring, and educating about the current skilled trades gap. The company currently employs 1,200 talented skilled technicians and works with another 2,600 independent contractors employing more than 14,450 technicians, mainly within HVAC, plumbing and electrical trades.
