Former U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Commissioner Dr. William Beach Joins UKG Workforce Institute Advisory Board

By: via Business Wire

The UKG Workforce Institute a think tank known for its global research and actionable insights on what’s impacting HR, organizations, and their people — is pleased to welcome Dr. William Beach, labor economist and former Commissioner of Labor Statistics at the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), to the institute’s advisory board of experts. Appointed to a four-year term at the BLS in 2019, Beach served under two U.S. presidential administrations as the bureau’s 15th Commissioner of Labor Statistics. He is currently the Coffin Fellow at the Calvin Coolidge Presidential Foundation and the Senior Fellow in Economics at the Economic Policy Innovation Center.

“I’m excited to be joining the UKG Workforce Institute advisory board,” said Beach. “As a lifelong public-policy person and lifelong economist, I’m always thinking about what’s changing in the workplace — from safety to automation — and how those changes shape jobs, salaries, and worker productivity, as well as the larger effects on the U.S. labor market overall. It's my view that we have a highly productive and growing U.S. economy today, and, if we play our cards rightly, that its best days are in front of us. It’s a great time to be exploring how economic trends intersect with and impact the employee experience, alongside my fellow institute members.”

Prior to joining the BLS, Beach was Vice President for Policy Research at the Mercatus Center at George Mason University, from 2016 to 2019. He also served as the Chief Economist for the U.S. Senate Budget Committee, Republican Staff, from 2013 through early 2016. Among his other professional positions, Beach was the Lazof Family Fellow in Economics at Heritage and Founder and Director of the Heritage’s Center for Data Analysis (CDA). A graduate of Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas, Beach also holds a graduate degree in history and economics from the University of Missouri-Columbia and a doctorate degree in economics from Buckingham University in Great Britain, where he is a Visiting Fellow in Economics.

As a member of the UKG Workforce Institute advisory board, Beach will tackle such topics as what’s happening in the U.S. labor market, the next generation of work, automation, employee engagement, and population trends.

“We are privileged to welcome Dr. Beach to our advisory board, as he brings such a unique perspective and vantage point of the U.S. labor market, especially having led the BLS during a years-long, once-in-a-lifetime pandemic,” said Dr. Jarik Conrad, vice president of human insights at UKG and executive director of the UKG Workforce Institute. “Dr. Beach’s expertise and insights will be invaluable in helping business leaders navigate the complex labor market, and we’re thrilled to have him on the board.”
