Plantabis Dispensary Employees in Rahway Stand Together for Stronger, More Stable Marijuana Careers in 2025

For Plantabis, employees voting to join United Food and Commercial Workers Local 360 can mean a better work environment, more productive and committed workers, and an improved experience for customers.

United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 360 is pleased to announce that its ‘Cannabis Workers Rising’ campaign has prevailed at another dispensary in New Jersey. Workers at the Plantabis drive-thru dispensary in Rahway, NJ – https://plantabis.com/rahway-cannabis-dispensary/ – have voted to enter the new year as members of UFCW Local 360. Plantabis currently operates six dispensaries across New Jersey and bills itself as the number one dispensary in “the Tri-State area.”

“Organizing is the best defense against today’s anti-worker movements,” said Hugh Giordano, UFCW Local 360’s director of organizing. “There are those who seek to strip workers of their rights, reducing employee opportunities, weaking families and damaging entire communities. We won’t stand for that and we urge employers and employees to join us in ensuring the long term success of our marijuana industry, for all.”

On its website, Plantabis touts its “belief that community is at the heart of our success,” as well as its determination to “stand up for what’s right.” A minority and woman owned company, the company also promotes its commitment to “fostering a positive impact beyond our dispensary doors.”

“Voting to join Local 360 is the most powerful way workers can show their commitment to a business’s long-term success,” Giordano said. “It’s workers saying they want to be a part of realizing the potential they see in a company. Success and growth for their employers is a major part of that, but so are family sustaining careers, and inclusive community improvement initiatives.”

“As we close out 2024, we’re more energized and determined than ever,” said Sam Ferraino, Jr., UFCW Local 360 president. “The need in New Jersey’s cannabis industry for strong union leadership is great and will only grow in the foreseeable future. More and more people are coming to that same realization as outside influences continue to peddle their anti-worker nonsense. Local 360 has the expertise, the track record and the resources to push back, which is why our organizing momentum continues to build.”

From seed to sale, UFCW is a recognized leader in organizing cannabis industry employees and is the official AFL-CIO designated cannabis labor union. Representing tens of thousands of cannabis workers in dispensaries, labs, delivery, manufacturing, processing, grow facilities and more, UFCW works with employees and business owners to achieve the shared goal of a regulated cannabis industry that delivers family-sustaining jobs and is focused on social equity.

About United Food and Commercial Workers: The UFCW International Union represents over 1.3 million hardworking families across the U.S. and Canada. These members work in essential industries such as Retail, Warehousing, Manufacturing, Healthcare, Transportation, the Public Sector and Cannabis.
