Maximus Expands Support for District of Columbia’s Employment and Education Program

DC Department of Human Services selects Maximus to administer two services that help recipients of Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) find secure, reliable employment

Maximus, a leading employer and provider of government services, today announced that the DC Department of Human Services (DHS) has selected the company to administer the District of Columbia’s Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Employment and Education Program. Under this latest contract, the company will be administering both the Education and Occupational Training (EOT) and Job Placement (JP) Services.

Under the new EOT and JP Services contract, Maximus will focus on enhancing families’ skills and education to build their capacity to pursue stable employment that provides family-sustaining income. The company will provide coaching, career pathways, and business services through a delivery model that includes home visits and offers customers the option of in-person or virtual services. For customers who prefer digital engagement and have program questions, the recently refreshed program website includes live chat.

Customers will engage with the same Maximus case manager throughout their employment journeys, a familiarity that is especially important to minimize service disruption and foster trusting relationships that promote long-term program engagement. Approximately one-third of the Maximus staff members supporting this work are previous program participants.

Maximus has provided TANF case management and employment services for the District of Columbia since 2000, helping thousands of families break the cycle of poverty. Maximus helps job-seeking customers find and retain employment by empowering them to develop individual roadmaps to success, engage with training and education providers, and access vocational training in high-growth sectors.

“As active members of the DC community, we possess a deep understanding of the local hiring landscape and the essential social services required to meet the needs of residents,” said Lisa Simmons, Vice President of Human Services, Maximus. “Our extensive network of community and employment partners, built over the past two decades, empowers us to coordinate resources and tackle critical needs effectively. This collaboration significantly reduces barriers to employment participation, ensuring that people can access the right support and opportunities.”
