Amentum Breaks Ground on Radiation Combined Environment Test Facility at WestGate@Crane

Amentum (NYSE: AMTM), in partnership with Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division (NSWC Crane), broke ground today on a one-of-a-kind Radiation Combined Environment (RCE) Test Facility in Odon, Indiana that will play a critical role in advancing microelectronics efficacy for the U.S. Department of Defense.

“As our nation faces increasingly complex threats, the ability to test and validate microelectronics in the harshest conditions—conditions that mirror real-world conflict environments—is not just important; it’s essential,” said Mark Walter, president for the Engineering and Technology Business Group at Amentum. “With our decades of engineering and mission experience, we’re leading the charge by investing in the Crane innovation ecosystem and developing a critical capability that directly supports the warfighter.”

The RCE Test Facility marks a major milestone in the partnership between Amentum and NSWC Crane, with more than four decades of collaboration and over 20 years of dedicated support to strategic microelectronics initiatives.

"We are proud to partner with Amentum on this state-of-the-art RCE Test Facility that will ensure rigorous testing of the components that our warfighters depend on, meeting both current fleet needs and future mission requirements," said Dr. Angela Lewis, SES, technical director at NSWC Crane. “Trusted microelectronics are foundational to reliable and robust systems across all defense domains.”

The facility will draw on Amentum’s deep technical expertise from across its global company, with specialties spanning project management, critical facility design and engineering, radiation and radiological safety, and licensing and permitting — ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient delivery.

The RCE Test Facility is expected to generate highly skilled technical jobs and bolster the broader Crane / WestGate innovation ecosystem. Significant support has been received from multiple entities including U.S. Navy Strategic Systems Programs, Test Resource Management Center, Verus Research, developer Strongbox Commercial, Indiana Economic Development Corporation, Daviess County, and WestGate@Crane Technology Park supported by Uplands Science and Technology Foundation.
