ERI’s David Hirschler and Angie Ransom Describe the State of the Circular Economy at eSummit 2025

By: via Business Wire

Last week, David Hirschler, Chief Sustainability Officer; and Angie Ransom, Vice President of Retail of ERI, the nation’s first carbon neutral resource recovery, ITAD, mobility and data destruction/processing provider, each participated in panel conversations last week at the eSummit conference in Minneapolis.

Hirschler contributed to a panel discussion on the shifting regulatory landscape around state EPR laws and a look at handling protocols for batteries and solar panels. The discussion, moderated by Jason Linnell from the ERCC, featured Hirschler alongside fellow experts Katie Reilly from the CTA, Tricia Conroy from MRM, Victoria Gomez from the US EPA, Andrew Pomiak from the state of Maine, Steve Noble from the state of Michigan, and Carin Stuart from Call2Recycle.

Ransom was a featured expert on a panel about scaling reuse. Moderated by Jordan Sielaff of Gierd, the panel featured Ransom, Joyce Cruts from Acer and Khine Win from Target. This session covered proven strategies for scaling reuse operations across multiple channel partners with velocity.

“eSummit” is shorthand for SERI’s Electronics Sustainability Summit 2025 – an event formerly known as the E-Reuse Conference. In an era when the sustainability of our planet hinges on innovation and collaboration, eSummit stands as a nexus for change. Electronics are ubiquitous in all of our lives, both at home and at work, but we need to make this relationship sustainable. This means being able to enjoy all the benefits that electronics deliver, without sacrificing the present or future.

The eSummit brings together the brightest minds and the most forward-thinking companies to accomplish this ambitious goal. No matter where you sit on the electronics lifecycle – whether a business that uses electronics, a manufacturer, product designer, retailer, repairer or refurbisher, policy maker, academic, or recycler – the eSummit offers an unparalleled platform for learning, sharing, and networking. That’s because everyone has a part to play in making electronics sustainable, and the power of collaboration is exponential.

“We’re grateful to have been asked by our friends and colleagues at SERI to participate in these spirited discussions about the role the circular economy must play in the management of electronic devices at such a critically important conference,” said ERI’s Chairman and CEO John Shegerian. "It’s key that we focus on the various ways we can innovate sustainably. And each step of the way, we must never lose sight of the importance of responsible recycling.”

ERI is the first material resource recovery, ITAD and mobility recycling company that is carbon neutral and zero waste. ERI is certified at the highest level by all leading environmental and data security oversight organizations to de-manufacture, recycle, and refurbish every type of electronic device in an environmentally responsible manner. It is the first and only company in its industry to achieve carbon neutrality at all its facilities nationwide, and the first to achieve ISO 27001 and SOC 2 Type II certifications for security and data protection. ERI has the capacity to process more than a billion pounds of electronic waste annually at its eight certified locations, serving every zip code in the United States. ERI’s mission is to protect people, the planet and privacy. For more information about ITAD services and e-waste recycling at ERI, call 1-800-ERI-DIRECT or visit https://eridirect.com.
