DAT adds Shipper Spot Rate to the DAT iQ Platform for Better Broker Pricing Insights

DAT Freight & Analytics has introduced a new Shipper Spot Rate in its DAT iQ analytics platform that offers freight brokers unprecedented visibility into the shipper side of truckload pricing.

The Shipper Spot Rate provides brokers with an independent, data-driven baseline for shipper spot buy rates, the average rate shippers pay brokers for one-time transactions on a given lane. Previously, brokers in DAT iQ had access only to broker-buy spot rates (the rate the broker pays the carrier). By analyzing the Shipper Spot Rate alongside broker-buy spot rates and shipper contract rates, brokers can identify short-term pricing volatility and long-term trends before they develop in the broader market.

Shipper Spot Rate offers other benefits that can transform how brokers approach pricing:

  • Pricing aligned with the market: Leveraging DAT iQ RateView, the industry’s most comprehensive pricing dataset, brokers can pinpoint underpriced lanes that cut into margins and overpriced lanes that drive lost opportunities.
  • Pricing precision: With a reliable sell-side pricing benchmark, brokers can avoid bids that are too low and erode profit, or are too high and risk losing freight.
  • Seamless integration: Shipper Spot Rate is accessible via API, allowing brokers to pull data directly into their own systems for streamlined analysis and decision-making.

“The Shipper Spot Rate feature is ideal for brokerages that manage significant freight volumes and use industry benchmarks for rate validation,” said Ken Adamo, DAT Chief of Analytics. “Sell-side data can help them improve pricing transparency and compare their rates to the market.”

Shipper Spot Rate is a response to customer demand. Approximately 50% of broker contributions to DAT iQ already include sell-side data.

“Shipper Spot Rate is a game-changer for recognizing trends and tightening our bids without sacrificing margin,” said Alex Perry, Vice President of Pricing and Market Intelligence at FreightVana, a digital logistics and transportation provider. “This kind of intelligence makes all the difference when you’re operating at scale.”

Shipper Spot Rate is available now as an add-on to existing DAT iQ RateView subscriptions. For more information, visit dat.com/rateview.
