Verasonics, Inc., the leader in research ultrasound, today announced the release of a significant update for its Vantage NXT Research Ultrasound platform. The release introduces advanced hardware integration capabilities, expanded support for focused ultrasound (FUS) applications, enhanced real-time data synchronization tools, and compatibility with the new M8dV Matrix Array Transducer. The update is available immediately to all Vantage NXT customers.

Key Features and Enhancements to the Vantage NXT Platform

Quadrature Encoder Inputs

The Vantage NXT system provides three encoder inputs that enable users to track position, movement, and rotation during data acquisition.

Researchers can use encoder count data for

Pulse-on-position acquisition triggering on any of the three encoder counts
Real-time reading of position data
Integrating with automated scanning, robotics, or custom automation

This capability is beneficial for applications requiring detailed spatial mapping such as non-destructive evaluation (NDE) and custom instrumentation.

Real-time Analog Input Synchronization

Vantage NXT now captures external analog data in real-time aligned with the image acquisition. This is useful for synchronization of physiological signals and an ultrasound signal, conditional actions based on an analog signal, or triggering signal acquisitions. Researchers can now monitor and record physiological signals or external sensor readings without interrupting scan sequences.

Example use cases include:

Real-time ECG or respiration monitoring
Correlating external sensor measurements with imaging data
Implementing closed-loop automation or acquisition trigger systems

Expanded Support for FUS 2D and FUS 3D GUI Software

Verasonics’ FUS 2D and FUS 3D graphical software is now fully compatible with the Vantage NXT platform. Ideal for intermediate-depth applications with real-time imaging-therapy interleaving, the FUS 2D GUI provides streamlined B-mode imaging and 1D therapy planning. The FUS 3D GUI expands capabilities with full 3D visualization, multi-angle reference scanning, and advanced treatment planning tools, including Temperature Strain Imaging (TSI).

Both GUI programs support Verasonics’ FUS-01/-02/-03 and FUS-04/-05/-06 transducer pairings, giving researchers a unified and flexible platform for both planar and volumetric USgFUS applications.

Acquisition SDK Support for Vantage NXT 64 and 32LE

The Acquisition Software Development Kit (SDK) is fully independent of MATLAB and supports low level sequence programming via a C language API. The SDK now includes complete support for Vantage NXT 64 and 32LE systems.

Introducing the M8dV 8 MHz Matrix Array Transducer

Verasonics also announced the launch of the new M8dV 8 MHz Matrix Array Transducer, a 1,024-element probe built on a 32 × 32 monolithic array. Evolving from the proven M3dV 3 MHz model design, the M8dV delivers enhanced performance and improved uniformity through its monolithic element fabrication. The transducer is compatible with both Vantage NXT and Vantage 256-channel systems.

Updated Essentials of Ultrasound Imaging Course for Vantage NXT

Verasonics’ comprehensive Essentials of Ultrasound Imaging Course has been fully updated to support the Vantage NXT. Offering guided lectures, interactive simulation tools, and hands-on labs, the program now allows learners to explore ultrasound fundamentals with the Vantage NXT platform.
