WINNIPEG, MB: SpeedPro Signs & Vehicle Wraps Winnipeg North, one of Winnipeg’s premier sign and large-format printing companies, has been chosen as a partner in the redevelopment of the iconic Portage Place.

Opened in 1987, Portage Place was one of the last malls in Canada to be built in a downtown area. Over time, major tenants, including Holt Renfrew, McNally Robinson, and IMAX, left the mall; persistent vacancies prompted management to convert some retail space into offices in 2010. Redevelopment of the property was seen as necessary by many, with Cindy Tugwell, executive director of Heritage Winnipeg, stating to the ConstructConnect’s Journal of Commerce that “The development is critical to the survival of our downtown.”

Portage Place was acquired by True North Real Estate Development in 2024. The redevelopment is slated to include a number of new features, including a residential tower, grocery store, health care centre, and new retail shops. The new redevelopment will be completed in phases, with the housing component slated for completion by 2027, and the full redevelopment to be completed within three to four years.

The mall will remain open during construction, hosting open houses and community events. 

As a partner in the redevelopment, SpeedPro Signs & Vehicle Wraps Winnipeg North is slated to provide exterior and interior signage, wall and window graphics, wayfinding signage, hoarding banners, and more.
