How User-Focused Technologies are Impacting the Future of Mobile Gaming

By: Get News

While it’s no secret that gaming has been a popular hobby for individuals around the world for quite some time now, advancements in tech have led to a whole new niche: mobile games.

The industry has come a long way since Snake was first released back in 1997 on the Nokia 6110 and now anyone with internet connectivity can spend a little (or a lot) of time enjoying a host of games to suit their tastes.

Why are mobile games getting so much attention?

Two of the biggest reasons why mobile games are so popular are that they are accessible and often free. Users can choose to play immersive games with fantastic graphics and make in-app purchases if they want access to perks, or simply open their mobile device and enjoy a quick puzzle game like Slope 3.

The great news is that these types of games aren’t limited to mobiles and tablets either, as they can be played on laptops and PCs through proprietary websites.

How user-focused technologies are impacting the niche

Console and PC games often have huge development teams and large budgets to create entire worlds that draw audiences in with detailed cinematic visuals. On the opposite end of the scale, mobile games will often have less than a handful of dedicated creators with limited collateral.

As the mobile gaming niche is fast-paced and highly competitive, there is a greater focus on implementing innovative mechanics and customised content - and this is paving the way for better engagement for players.

As a result, traditional video games are falling behind in terms of playability when you consider the level of augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) technologies that mobile devices can make use of.

The software and hardware on mobile devices allow developers to create games that use features like GPS and in-built cameras to curate more fluid controls and more versatile, engaging content that will only get better.

The future of mobile gaming

As there are a host of platforms that facilitate mobile games (like the Google PlayStore), developers have the ability to reach large audiences, fast. As coding is far simpler and requires less time and effort than building console games, there is greater scope for creating and releasing games that are affordable yet highly functional for both developers and users.

In terms of the future of gaming, mobile networks are advancing and becoming better supported, mobile games will continue to provide faster download speeds, shorter loading times, lower latency and even cloud gaming capabilities - and the introduction of 5G is already improving the niche to surpass the function of more traditional counterparts.

Key takeaways

Mobile gaming is already a wide and varied niche that brings a host of features and functions that provide a fast, cheap, immersive experience for those who want to game on the go. User-focused technologies are already having an impact on the way players game and this will only get better as technology and the years progress.
