New York Malware Assessment Consulting For 2022 Regulation Compliance Update

A new malware assessment consulting service (646 560-5083) is helping small businesses in New York comply with state regulations.

2Secure Crop, which specializes in cybersecurity solutions for small to medium-sized businesses, now offers malware assessment consulting for covered entities under the NYDFS 23 NYCRR 500.

The announcement comes amid growing concerns about the frequency of cyberattacks on small businesses. In 2021, Hiscox reported that 23% of small businesses suffered cyberattacks and incurred thousands of dollars in losses. In recently published guidance, the Department of Financial Services also emphasized the need for small enterprises to implement more robust cybersecurity systems – pointing to the importance of multi-factor authentication among others.

2Secure explains that the main reason small businesses are often targeted is that they have information cybercriminals want – personal and customer data such as social security numbers and credit card information – but lack the security measures to protect it. As such, regulatory compliance becomes ever more important, as it not only helps business owners avoid non-compliance fines but also ensures their information and reputation are protected.

As part of its consulting service, 2Secure provides a full suite of assessments and tests to ensure continuous monitoring of security systems – as required under NY state regulations. The firm conducts both internal and external vulnerability assessments and penetration testing to identify possible entry points and implement security measures to prevent cyberattacks.

2Secure will also perform ransomware attack simulations – a crucial step considering that 66% of small businesses suffered at least one ransomware attack in the past year. “Ransomware is an especially malicious form of cyberattack, which seeks to breach the security of a computer system and encrypt its data,” explained a company representative. “It then locks that data with a virtual key that will only be supplied to the owner after payment of a ransom amount to the cyber attacker.”

The firm uses malware attack simulation (MAS) – a harmless cyberattack which breaches existing security measures and encrypts data – to identify possible faults in the system and implement the necessary steps to mitigate the risks of ransomware attacks.
