K-Food’s Rising Star: Korean Processed Rice Products Captivate European Tastes

Families across Europe flock to the 2nd Korea Unboxed Event featuring Topokki, Rice Noodles, and Rice Balls.-

-- The Korea Rice Foodstuffs Association (KRFA) hosted Korean Rice Food Promotion Event in Cooperation with the Embassy to the EU from October 17 to 19. The event aimed to explore the potential of Korean rice-processed foods in the European market and introduce local consumers to Korean rice-processed foods in the heart of Europe.

This event, organized in cooperation with the Embassy of Belgium to the EU, consisted of a B2B networking session on October 17 and the operation of a K-Food Zone at the “The 2nd Korea Unboxed event : Scoop the Trend” event , hosted by the Korean Cultural Center Brussels on October 18–19.

The networking session invited key exporters and buyers to showcase the quality and value of Korean processed rice products through presentations and tastings, providing participating companies with a networking platform to facilitate entry into the European market.

At the session, Chief Researcher. Jongdae Park from the Korea Food Research Institute delivered a presentation on the excellence of Korean rice products, while Dayoung Kim from KRFA(the Korea Rice Foodstuffs Association) introduced the association’s rice foods and participating companies.

Local supermarket buyers, Korean food associations, restaurant chefs, officials from the Korean Cultural Center Brussels, and representatives from the KOREA AGRO-TRADE CENTER, PARIS office participated. Attendees shared appreciation for the advanced quality and innovation of Korean rice-processed foods and engaged in networking opportunities.

Eunji Cho, Agricultural Attaché at the Embassy of Belgium to the EU, stated, “Rice is a traditional Korean staple, yet it aligns with EU food trends emphasizing sustainability and innovation. We encourage EU buyers to show strong interest in Korean rice-processed products.”

The 2nd Korea Unboxed event, Eighteen Korean companies participated, which attracted 27,000 visitors.

The large-scale event promoted K-Food, K-Culture, K-Beauty, and K-Tourism to local consumers. Nine Korean rice-processed food manufacturers conducted tasting sessions, demonstrating strong European interest in Korean food products.

The K-Food Zone featured signature Korean rice products, including: ▲Cup Topokki by Young Poong Co., Ltd. and HAYANHAESSAL COMPANY ▲Korean whisky distillate by HWAYO Co., Ltd. ▲Gluten-free nurungji rice snacks by Sungchan Food ▲Healthy rice snacks by NATURE ODA Co., Ltd. ▲Ready-to-eat rice balls by UMJIFOOD ▲Healthy yakbap and danghobap by Wenntteok Village Farming Association Corporation ▲Instant rice noodles by NATUREVIL Co., Ltd. ▲Creamy rice cakes combining chewy rice cakes with savory cream by Go Surok Food Co., Ltd. This diverse lineup showcased the innovation and variety of Korean rice-processed products to European consumers.

The event confirmed heightened interest in Korean food, driven by the Hallyu wave and K-Pop content such as Demon Hunters. Signature Korea Food items including Topokki, Rice noodles, and Distilled spirits were promoted as products made from Korean rice, attracting strong attention from European consumers.

At the association’s promotional booth, the 2025 Rice Plus* products were showcased, alongside tastings of rice-processed beverages by Shinsegae Food and market-testing surveys to gauge European consumer preferences.

Rice Plus 2025 is a program organized by the Korea Processed Rice Food Association under the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, selecting representative rice-processed products of the year (held since 2008, 18th edition in 2025).

Chairman Byung-Chan Park, KRFA (the Korea Rice Foodstuffs Association) stated, “We will continue diverse efforts to expand the presence of healthy and varied Korean Rice-Peocessede foods in Europe. Tailored research and development reflecting European consumer demand is also essential.” He emphasized that this event marks a starting point for a more systematic and timely entry into the European market.
