Bahrain Hosts WCS General Assembly as Global Camel Racing Leaders Convene

World Camelids Sport (WCS) is the international governing body for camel racing that unites member federations globally to regulate the sport while developing the markets.

-- Over 50 federation presidents and representatives landed in Bahrain last weekend ahead of the World Camelids Sport General Assembly. The event was led by His Highness Prince Fahd bin Jalawi bin Abdulaziz bin Musaed bin Jalawi, taking place on December 19 and 20.

As delegates flew in worldwide, there wasn't much room for downtime in the official schedule. All official sessions ran alongside specialized workshops. The conversations got into the weeds on organizational matters that federations have been wrestling with. Performance reports came under review. Activity summaries got picked apart. And delegates hashed out where things should be heading over the next phase.

Continental federation presidents from Asia, Africa, and Europe each presented regional updates before the assembly worked through the rest of the agenda and locked in formal resolutions.

Two workshops earned particular attention. One tackled anti-doping protocols — a must for any sport serious about international legitimacy. The other focused on governance, giving federations space to swap notes on what's working and what isn't. Both sessions pushed toward the same goal: building the kind of professional infrastructure that gets a sport taken seriously.

Bahrain made the most of the occasion. The event saw the Asian Camel Racing Federation, European Camel Racing Federation, African Camel Racing Federation, and Arab Camel Racing Federation all holding their own General Assemblies in the same window. Representatives from international sports organizations showed up throughout.

The numbers speak for themselves. WCS started in 2018 with 14 national federations. By 2023, that hit 52. Another 19 signed on in 2024. Today, 63 countries hold membership — a jump that would've seemed optimistic seven years ago.

Bahrain's hosting duties fit a pattern. The Kingdom keeps showing up as a hub for international sports gatherings, and its willingness to coordinate this kind of multi-federation event directly supports what WCS is trying to build.
