While these plastics are notorious for their slow decomposition rates, sunlight, wind, and wave action will eventually break the waste down into small particles known as microplastics, which are then spread around the world by ocean currents - posing health threats in addition to environmental threats.

As these growing issues have underscored the need for urgent action, Hempire Labs has begun researching sustainable plastic alternatives, and its studies suggest that bioplastics composed of hemp fibers contain high tensile strength and durability, making them comparable to steel.
