Employment remains a critical concern. While OPWDD programs include job coaching and placement through local partnerships, only 41 percent of working-age New Yorkers with disabilities are currently employed—below the national average of 48 percent. Legislation currently under review may improve transparency for residential placements. Senate Bill 2025-S4868, introduced earlier this year, would require OPWDD to maintain a Community Residential Opportunity Waitlist to better track demand for certified housing options.
