Michigan Firearms Lawyer Paul J. Tafelski Explains Concealed Weapons Violation

Michigan firearms lawyer Paul J. Tafelski releases a new article (https://www.michigandefenselaw.com/firearms-lawyer/) that discusses concealed weapons violations in the state of Michigan. The lawyer mentions that the Michigan law forbids the carrying of "dangerous weapons", concealed firearms, and weapons that are too large or too small to be carried around the body or in any vehicle. A violation of this law can be called a concealed weapon violation.

“Michigan does have a concealed gun license (CPL) that allows people to carry weapons provided they meet all the requirements. An individual who is licensed to carry concealed firearms cannot have one on their person, or in their vehicle if they have any alcohol content of 0.02 or more or a controlled substance,” says the Michigan firearms lawyer.

The lawyer explains that if someone is facing a civil infraction, a misdemeanor charge, or has been charged with a crime, their concealed gun permit (CPL) could be suspended. An additional charge may be added if someone is arrested for an OWI while in possession of a gun. Additional charges will be issued for possessing a gun while drunk driving.

Attorney Tafelski says that being charged with possessing a weapon while you are drunk driving is a state law charge. The County/State prosecutor will prosecute the charge. Michigan also makes it a crime to sell, distribute, or produce certain weapons, including rifles and short-barreled shotguns.

In the article, attorney Tafelski discusses Michigan's firearms prohibitions. Attorney Tafelski states that there is an established national baseline for the eligibility of people to possess or acquire firearms. Federal law generally forbids individuals from possessing and purchasing firearms if they are convicted of misdemeanor offenses.

According to the criminal defense lawyer, “The law prohibits anyone convicted of a felony or “specified crime” from possessing, using or transporting, buying, selling, purchasing, or shipping a firearm or ammunition. If the person has not fulfilled any statutory requirements to restore their ability to possess or own a firearm, such as serving any sentence or conditions to parole and paying any fines, they will be prohibited from doing so.”

Lastly, attorney Paul J. Tafelski emphasizes that it is important for someone who is facing concealed weapons violations. Having an experienced lawyer may be able to help the accused have an effective defense strategy and protect their freedom.
