SMARTBUILD Partners With Trade Contractors to Pilot Voice-Driven Reporting Using smrt-E

Toronto, Ontario - October 29, 2025 - PRESSADVANTAGE -

SMARTBUILD Construction Solutions has partnered with a group of construction contractors to test smrt-E, its new AI voice-powered field reporting tool. The initiative aims to measure how voice technology can simplify documentation, improve communication accuracy, and strengthen coordination between jobsite crews and project management teams.

The pilot involves mechanical, electrical, and civil contractors operating across Canada and the US. Each company is testing smrt-E on their construction projects. The technology allows field workers to record site conditions, safety observations, and progress updates verbally. smrt-E then converts the spoken input into structured, time-stamped records that can be viewed or shared instantly.

SMARTBUILD developed smrt-E to address one of construction's persistent challenges: accurate, real-time field reporting. Construction contractors continue to rely on manually recording field information, leading to incomplete, delayed, or incorrect reports, and creating communication gaps that can result in rework, claims, or project disputes.

smrt-E's voice interface is built specifically for field environments. It can be used with gloves, functions in variable weather, and operates even in low-connectivity areas. In addition to English, workers can dictate reports in other languages, a feature that helps multilingual crews capture information in their preferred language while maintaining consistent documentation standards across projects.

"Manual documentation slows the pace of field reporting and increases the risk of errors," said Rowan Steel-Hall, Chief Operating Officer at SMARTBUILD. "We're working directly with contractors and receiving immediate feedback on smrt-E."

During the pilot, SMARTBUILD is collecting feedback from site supervisors, foremen, and project managers.

The company is tracking several key indicators, including time spent on reporting, reduction in missed updates, and overall satisfaction among field users. The goal is to refine smrt-E's design ahead of a broader rollout planned for 2026.

Early results suggest that voice-based documentation improves report completion and in a faster time. Several contractors involved in the pilot have reported faster communication between crews and management, with daily logs completed in less than half the usual time. The ability to dictate updates in real time also improves the level of detail captured in reports.

Zulqernain Malik, Founder of SMARTBUILD, said the pilot reinforces the company's "field-first" approach to technology development. "The construction industry doesn't need more complex software. It needs tools that work in the moment, under real jobsite pressures," he said. "smrt-E allows crews to record progress as it happens, hands-free, accurate, and connected to their existing project systems."

smrt-E integrates with widely used construction management platforms, including Procore, Autodesk, and SMARTBUILD. Reports and voice-to-text entries generated through smrt-E flow directly into project logs, safety documentation, and compliance records. The tool issues automated alerts for reporting requirements and approaching deadlines, thereby supporting greater oversight across multiple construction sites.

In addition to operational efficiency, SMARTBUILD is studying how smrt-E can improve communication on jobsites where more than one language is spoken. Construction teams often include workers who speak different primary languages, which can lead to missed instructions or incomplete notes. smrt-E's speech recognition system converts dictated reports into consistent written formats, providing a single record that project managers and safety officers can review.

The pilot program will continue through the end of 2025, with results expected in early 2026. SMARTBUILD intends to utilize the data to inform future updates and new integrations within its product line.

"Technology adoption in construction succeeds only when it reflects how people actually work," said Steel-Hall. "By building smrt-E alongside the contractors who will use it, we're ensuring it supports, not interrupts, the pace of the jobsite."

SMARTBUILD, based in Toronto, has spent more than a decade developing construction management software tailored to the needs of general contractors, subcontractors, and design professionals. Its product suite includes smrtGC for general contractors, smrtSUB for trade partners, and the forthcoming smrtAE for architects and engineers. Each solution focuses on improving communication, documentation, and compliance throughout a project's life.

The company's leadership team combines more than 50 years of construction experience with expertise in digital transformation and data management. The release of smrt-E marks SMARTBUILD's next step in addressing one of the industry's most pressing productivity challenges, the time and accuracy lost in daily reporting.

smrt-E is a voice-powered reporting tool that allows construction teams to record field updates, safety observations, and progress reports verbally. The tool takes spoken updates and converts them into organized, time-stamped records that connect directly with project management systems.

Designed for practical use on active jobsites, smrt-E supports dictation in multiple languages and continues to operate reliably in low-connectivity environments.
