It is sustainable - not only as a mechanical watch, but in its design, which has remained unchanged for twelve years across nearly a dozen versions. With its distinctive stepped hands, dot indexes, softly rounded wire lugs, and knurled crown, it has earned admiration of design juries worldwide.
"Good design is characterized by the fact that it doesn't stand out - but that the item would be deeply missed if it were gone," says Braun, who wears Metro date power reserve every day. "Good design is like a friend. You wouldn't want to be without it."
Urban character and technical independence
What gives this watch its unmistakably urban character? For Braun, the urbanity lies in the way the dial's individual elements stand apart from one another yet form a coherent whole. Its modernity is expressed through the concentration of numerals in the minute scale. For Braun, the numerals placed here, rather than marking the hours, reflect the fast pace of the modern cityscape.
Metro holds a special place on a technical level. In 2014, Metro date power reserve became the first model to feature the in-house lever escapement, the NOMOS swing system. With Metro, NOMOS Glashütte marked its horological independence.
Alongside Metro date power reserve, Metro neomatik 41 Update and Metro 33 rose gold rank among the most sought-after versions. Slimmer models in stainless steel with manual winding represent the more accessible price tier.
