Eleven Energy launches the UK's first sodium-ion home battery system – and it's already powering homes nationwide

By: PRLog
CAMBRIDGE, U.K. - July 22, 2025 - PRLog -- The global home battery market is expanding rapidly, with residential storage deployments surpassing 34 GWh by the end of 2023 and continuing to grow at double-digit rates in key markets. But behind the headlines lies a growing challenge: lithium-ion's environmental impact, volatile costs and limited scalability.

Leading this transition is Eleven Energy, a British startup from Cambridge that's pioneering a sustainable alternative — a fully integrated, sodium-ion battery and hybrid inverter system, now installed in homes across the UK.

"The world needs cleaner, safer and more scalable storage options to support the renewable energy transition," said Andy Rankin, Chief Growth Officer at Eleven Energy. "Our sodium battery system isn't just ready for this shift – it's already powering real homes and helping customers make the most of their solar, safely and sustainably."

A Market Ripe for Change
Sodium-ion batteries use abundant, easily accessible materials, and perform reliably even in extreme temperatures from -20°C to 55°C.

"We built the Eleven's sodium battery system to make residential storage safer, smarter, and simpler," added Neil French, Chief Technology Officer. "Our inverter is efficient and grid-compliant. And our app gives homeowners the control and insight they need to lower bills and maximise solar."

Trusted by Installers. Loved by Homeowners.
Since launching earlier this year, Eleven Energy has installed systems across homes in the UK — working with a growing national installer network.

"We couldn't be happier… the install was smooth, the system has worked perfectly since day one, and the support has been outstanding," said Adam Robinson, a homeowner in Cambridge.

"The products are very smart, easy to install, and probably the simplest on the market to commission," said Mike Himpett, an installer from Iwire Cambridge. "Customers love the fact it's sodium instead of lithium."

The system includes:
  • A hybrid inverter designed for seamless integration with PV systems
  • Modular 4.5 kWh sodium-ion battery packs (expandable to 36 kWh per inverter)
  • A user-friendly app for live energy tracking, smart scheduling and grid export optimisation
  • A battery enclosure suitable for outdoor installation
UK Distribution Backed by Midsummer Energy
Eleven Energy's rapid growth is supported by Midsummer Energy, one of the UK's largest renewable energy distributors. With nationwide warehousing and logistics, Midsummer ensures Eleven's products are stocked and ready for delivery to UK installers.

A Battery for the Next Era
With performance comparable to lithium iron phosphate batteries — but with greater environmental and safety advantages — Eleven Energy's sodium-ion system is proving that the future of home energy doesn't need to rely on lithium.
