Rebecca Zung Responds to Project Justice USA’s Report

Project Justice USA recently released its "Breaking the Silence" report detailing the experiences of domestic abuse survivors in the family court system. Rebecca Zung shares her call to action.

(PRUnderground) December 1st, 2025

In light of Project Justice USA’s recently released “Breaking the Silence” report, renowned narcissism expert Rebecca Zung is sounding the alarm about systemic failures exposed in America’s family court system.

The report, based on over 2,000 survey responses, reveals how domestic abuse survivors are retraumatized by courts that fail to understand coercive control. Zung, a top 1% attorney and globally recognized high conflict negotiation specialist, says the findings echo what she’s heard from clients for years.

“Family courts are inadvertently empowering narcissistic abusers,” Zung explains. “These survivors aren’t just battling their exes. They’re fighting a system that rewards surface-level charm over real safety.”

According to the report, 92% of respondents identified as victims of coercive control, yet many were portrayed as unfit or dishonest while their abusers maintained a facade of stability. Zung warns that this is a common manipulation tactic.

“Narcissists thrive in environments where image trumps truth,” she says. “They excel in mediation and courtroom settings that rely on performance and perception.”

“You can’t mediate safety with someone who sees the legal process as a power game,” she adds. “Understanding what narcissists value — control, dominance, image — allows you to negotiate from a position of strength.”

As Family Court Awareness Month highlights the urgent need for reform, Zung urges courts to adopt deeper training in psychological abuse and for survivors to learn negotiation skills that shield them from manipulation.

“There’s no fairness in the courtroom if you don’t know how to protect yourself from a narcissist’s tactics,” she says. “But those tools exist, and you can learn them.”
