As VA Cuts Loom, VA Claims Academy Points Vets to Evidence-based Disability Claims

VA Claims Academy, a training program that helps veterans get proper disability ratings, shares evidence-based strategies for quicker claims approval, even as VA manpower gets 15% chop.

(PRUnderground) March 11th, 2025

VA Claims Academy, which helps veterans get their full VA disability benefits, is arming veterans with better strategies for submitting evidence-based claims in advance of a 15% workforce reduction at the Department of Veterans Affairs.

The Trump administration has announced a plan to cut roughly 80,000 jobs, leaving many veterans wondering how the already backlogged VA system will hold up. The VA reports that there are nearly 936,000 claims awaiting review for disability compensation and pensions. Nearly one quarter of those claims have been pending for more than 125 days.

Jordan Anderson, VA Claims Academy Founder, responded to the announcement with sympathy for those affected and hope for a positive outcome.

“My heart goes out to those whose jobs are being impacted,” said Anderson. “I doubt many would argue that the VA has reached anywhere close to its maximum efficiency. Right now marks a tremendous opportunity to leverage modern technology to empower the VA’s best workers, multiplying their output. There is certainly room to thoughtfully reduce the workforce while increasing the speed of claim adjudication and the quality healthcare to our veterans.”

Anderson advised veterans seeking a VA disability increase to lean into evidence-based claims.

“I advise all veterans to make sure they have a documented medical diagnosis for the disability they are claiming,” said Anderson. “The diagnosis needs to be clear and current, so if a veteran is claiming knee arthritis but hasn’t seen a doctor about it in years, they need to visit their private physician or VA doctor and get an updated diagnosis.”

Anderson also advised veterans to get a nexus letter from a physician to show that it is “at least as likely as not” that their military service caused their disability.

“One of the most important VA disability claim tips is for the veteran to show a clear connection between their military service and their current health condition, and the ‘at least as likely as not’ verbiage is critical,” said Anderson. “The VA wants to see that there is a greater than 50% chance that the disability stems from the veteran’s service.”

According to Anderson, veterans can also back up their medical documentation with short but impactful personal statements, describing the cause and development of their health condition and how it affects their daily life. Anderson maintained that proper documentation and evidence are more important than ever for an expedited claim review.

Anderson understands the veteran’s often frustrating journey to get fair disability compensation because he walked it himself. After his military service left him significantly disabled, he was rejected for appropriate VA benefits and charged over $15,000 by consultants and doctors in his efforts to simply get the benefits he had been promised. After years of research to crack the VA code, he started VA Claims Academy, which provides strategies, support, and plug-and-play resources to simplify the VA claims process.
